I have just taken 1 5-HTP pill at 11:00pm. If I were to take a 150mg Zantac now at 11:15 would it help lower the pH of my stomach to help absorb the amphetamines of the 30mg Adderall I am going to take around 9 in the morning? Or should I just drink a glass of baking soda water(1 quarter teaspoon of baking soda) an hour before taking the Adderall?

Also, any advice on getting the best effects from the Adderall is much appreciated!
:)

hmm hope it's not past 9 in sc already! (wonderful state btw) yeah, zantac is ranitidine right? That stuff, like other strong antacids, generally reduces stomach acid therefore it would just slow the absorbtion of the ampthetamine. Roughly the same goes for baking soda; it lowers ph- less acid = less of the drug degrading in the stomach = more of the good stuff absorbed into your blood.

I imagine baking soda would be the better option, for both the speed & any heartburn you may be taking the zantac for.

I'm sure there are others here who, if they could be assed, could give a better answer as mine is just an educated guess lol

Lol, and I thank you for the first reply and the good comment about SC doppelganga. :)
But I woke up later than originally intended and its going on 11:17am now. I just had me a cup of coffee and I do believe I am about to just take this addy.

But another question for enlightment partially related to this subject; does breaking the pill into smaller pieces as compared to taking it whole have any effect on the rate/speed of absorption?

But baking soda lowers ph right? :o (jesus i need to go back to school & learn my science again, & i got B's!

It raises pH. The higher the pH integer, the more basic a substance.

Basic soda increases pH, but lowers acidity.

Sort of counter-intuitive if you ask me, but ^ see dokomo's picture above above.

More acidic = lower pH = lower absorption of amphetamines (Adderall)
Less acidic = higher pH = high absorption of amphetamines

It also shows how consumption of orange juice, soft drinks and other acidic foods/beverages can reduce the effectiveness of Adderall. Vitamin C also has this effect because it is an acid in itself (ascorbic acid to be exact).

Hope this helps

Thanks man. I'm sure i knew that, i just forgot it & got it muddled up over time, if ya know what i mean.

I do, I remember when I first learned about basic vs. acid, pH and all that stuff, I thought to myself "who thought of this shit?"

It's just something you have to put to memory, no worries.

If you think you've got it now don't forget about pOH for directly comparing strength of alkaline to acid :)
For a substance pOH=14-pH

pH=-log10[H+]
pOH=-log10[OH-]

Ok, now you've got me lost. x)
Elaborate a little more on this "pOH" please?

[H+] is hydrogen ion concentration. Surplus indicates an acid.
[OH-] is hydroxide ion concentration. Surplus ndicates a base (alkaline).

Note that combined they make H20

To calculate pH you take the -log of the hydrogen ion concentration
pH=-log(0.0000001)=7
pH=-log(0.00001)=5
pH=-log(0.0000000001)=9
The higher the concentration of H+ the stronger the acid and the lower the log of the H+ concentration (pH).

pOH is the same thing just for the OH- concentration (which is inversly proportional to the H+ concentration). The higher the concentration of H+ the weaker the base the the higher the log of the H+ concentration (pH). The higher the concentration of OH- the stronger the base and the lower the log the OH- concentration which is (pOH).

It's useful when directly comparing the strength of an acid to the strength of a base. For two that are the same rather than saying pH of 1 compared to pH of 13, you can say pH of 1 compared to pOH of 1.

I do apologize amapola but I'm no chemist nor am I a pharmacist? But I do appreciate the continued support to the advancement of my knowledge. ;)
