. i don't know about you, but i'm sick and tired of all the bullshit coverage that the rave scene has been receiving in the mainstream media lately. it seems like every day i come to this board and someone has posted another article from their hometown paper that is filled with inaccuracies, misconceptions, and even outright propaganda.
well, in an attempt to right the record, i'm going to be writing an article about raving in my hometown specifically(ottawa, canada), but i'll also be writing about what i know about the scene more generally. this started out as a class project (4th year communications), but i'm hoping to have a finished product that i will be able to shop around to my campus paper, alternative paper, and maybe even some more mainstream media.
what i would like to know from my bluelight family is the following:
What do you think the public should know about our scene, that currently isn't being covered fairly/accurately in the mainstream media?
i really would like to hear your suggestions. this is your chance to be heard!!
by the way, i won't be mentioning bluelight in the article. i simply don't want to compromise this precious space of ours.

well first of all, the obvious is how much safer than alcohol it is. how many unregulated drugs cause less deaths than alcohol? also how times have you heard of a fight at a techno club or a rave? prob never.

how bout the fact that you've seen bums on the street from crack, heroine, alcochol, but never x.
that most rollers/ravers are middle or upper class, many proffessionals/business people that keep very good responsible lifes during the week. (rolls are expensive, but don't say that)or students that usually have good grades that just like to vent on the weekend.
obviously that x is safer than almost all other drugs (including pescription) check the side affect list of any prescription drug you have in your house.
That noone has ever died "directly" from X, but from heat exhaustion or mixing drugs because of lack of education cuz the "War on drugs" prevents the necessary knowledge to get to the users as fast and well as it should (thank god for places like this and Harmreduction...)
That more people die in LA of drunk driving in one evening, than have EVER died of X.
that alot of people at raves do not even do drugs, but are there for the people and the music.
That ravers are so energetic because much of the music is specifically made at certain BPMs (usually 12-160) because that BPM subconciosly (sp) activated brain signals that created adrenaline and make your heart beat faster. (it's tru, look it up)
that one of the only reasons that x is illegal is that the patent ran out and the government doesn't allow anything to be patented twice so pharmacy companies cannot do the proper testing on the drug to reduce it's illegal standing (Class? 1)
that in the tests that have been done, many of the X users had actually improved memmory, brain response. (why wasn't that info in the neurotoxicity report.)
That the dosage that they give to the mice that lose seratonin is the equivalant of a human taking 20 rolls a day for weeks at a time.
that it has never been proven that missing seratonin is a cause of neurotoxicity (just scientific speculation) (it has actually strengthened the brain signals in some tests)
..... I know there's more. If I think of any, I'll post 'em.
sorry so long, but there's alot of stuff that the downlooking public should be educated with.
good luck, and I'd love you to e-mail me a copy of the article.
(if I'm wrong on any of my points, please tell me. I like to be on top of this stuff. I never do a drug I don't know about.)
