Hey guys 30 year survivor of Osteogenic Sarcoma. I have a complete knee, femur, and tibia implant that's on it's fourth revision. I broke my previous implant at work and because of the complexity of the procedure and severe delays from comp and covid that leg is now 4 inches short. So just about a year ago I finally got the implant replaced. Other than the length issue it went very well. I had been out of comission for so long that I lost nearly all of the muscle tone in that leg (which wasn't exactly abundant to begin with). I have been doing well with PT and the lift shoe and I am down to using only one crutch most of the time. Like everything the crutches can take as much as they give. I have nerve issues in my neck and back as well as all the stuff that comes with a lifetime of being broken. I was with my pain management group for about 10 years. Several months ago they decided to force taper all their patients. We spoke about this extensively about the effects this was going to have on my quality of life and they pretty much didn't care. This week I was given my final refills and dismissed from the practice. Given the way things are right now for pain patients I am actively searching for a new practice but I'm also 100 percent prepared for the possibility that I will not find another doctor willing to take me on. With all my issues I've been through all the standard techniques, the bizzare techniques, and even some that scared me to death. Nerve blocks have never worked for me and while I use heat / cold / 2 different tens units / stretching / etc etc. the only thing that has really helped me is the pain meds. I would like to hear from anybody that has left prescription meds in favor of things like CBD, THC, Kratom, whatever. I don't have a medical card but I can get one if needed. NJ isn't a good place to be broken so I dont want to burn the time and money unless I think it's going to make a significant difference. I have visited states with recreational sales just to try it. The 1:1 cbd/thc gummies seem to help without being whacked out of my mind but I have very limited testing ability. If you have a good pain management practice in NJ or near central Jersey I'd like to hear that too. The prescription route is certainly the quickest, easiest, usually cheapest, most effective and most convienient, but I will not be beaten no matter how difficult they make things. Lets hear your stories!!!
