I have reason to believe 2000 will be unremarkable--that is, it will be like any other year in the 1990's. There will be:
-a handful of major disasters
-lots and lots of "mini" disasters
-a neverending barrage of media and political bullshit
-a few good things
Here are a few specific predictions:
National and International
-Y2K will have weak to modest impact on the US, primarily economic
-George W. Bush *will* become the next president
-The economy won't be as strong as it was this year, but I don't see a major recession
-Toward the end of next year we'll be treated again to more hype over the next Star Wars movie
-Relations between Russia, China, and the U.S. will remain delicate
-There will be widespread disappointment over the anticlimax of Y2K's arrival
-Crime will remain low
Music Scene:
-No major developments or radical trends
-Madonna will keep up the chameleon act
-Mariah Carey will finally put some more clothes on
-Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez will drop out of sight
-Reaction over the "boy bands" will mellow, though I still think they'll be making money come 2001.
-Remakes/remixes will remain popular, signifying the death of creativity
Drug Scene
-No new drugs will come off the pike, though the search for more legal highs will continue
-Narcs will use ever more sophisticated and Machiavellian techniques to nab druggies
Note: the mandatory minimum isn't going anywhere
-Druggies will use the same tried and true low-tech strategies to elude narcs.
