I have been taking 1mg Xanax 3xs a day now for months for anxiety and panic attacks. The Dr wants to prescribe me Ativan now. Will it have the same affect as the Xanax and will I go threw a withdraw. I like the Xanax and it seems to work well for me.:)

The doctor should switch you to a dosage which will not put you through withdrawal, the effects should be similar to xanax but you may react to it a bit differently than xanax, could be better or worse - different people prefer different benzos. Persoanlly klonopins are my favorite for medical use, but for recreational use i prefer xanax.

btw i'd say this is BDD or even OD material?

I prefer Ativan because it has always worked well for my anxiety. I didn't find it addictive or abuse it. I didn't need much for it to work and it works fast. Some people say it is weaker than xanax but I think it just works differently. Xanax makes me really sleepy and has negative impacts on my memory and ability to function. Ativan doesn't have any negative side effects on me.

Too bad my doctor thinks that I don't need it even though I have been diagnosed with anxiety/panic. She just wants to keep upping my dosage of Paxil which works a little for anxiety but not all that well in my opinion.

I think you might have a little withdrawal but your doctor should make it to where you don't experience full withdrawal. Ativan will probably have different effects on you than xanax.

How do I go about asking my doctor for a perscription of xanax? how severe does the case have to be, I've recently moved into my college dorm and have been experiencing alot of anxiety mostly due to missing home and the fact that I dont know anyone really. Would this be a legitimate reason?

Not likely. They'll probably try to give you some kind of SSRI first, but getting a benzo for some minor anxiety like that isnt likely going to happen, the bad outweighs the good in that situation in a doctors eyes.

3mg of xanax a day is quite a bit... coming off benzos in the end will be hell....i guess this route is ok if your anxiety has kept you bed ridden ...but if you can function with taking it every other day i would do that...in lower doses as well....gl

I was taking up to 5-8mg of xanax a day, and my doctor gave me ativan 1mg....It was the worse week of my life.....If you get ativan make sure there high mg

sorry but we don't help people scam their doctor for meds

A friend of mine is gonna give me two boxes of generic alprazolam tomorrow. Ok the little beasts are only 0.25mg, but two boxes = 60 pills, that's a total of 15mg. I'm planning to take 1 or 2 mgs to begin with, as my tolerance to benzos is not huge, on the contrary, I have lots of clonazepam but I take it only once a week. Yeah <3

Yeah, it would be wise to not mix two benxos as this makes tolerance build even faster to all benzos.

Just to be clear, this was meant to say "Do Not" do this.

There is no problem with this at all, don't get me wrong.
But why would you want to shorten the time you will actually have the benzos, in half?

Yeah I know, I was kidding you ;) But I've heard that it's a pretty good combo. Anyway this alpraz is not going to disappear in two days, I plan on taking some not more than once a week. I'm not addicted to benzos, that means that I can live with 250mg of clonaz in my drawer without even thinking it's here.

according to the benzo.org.uk equivalence chart, 0.5 mg alprazolam is equal to 1 mg lorazepam. So 3mg alprazolam is approximately strong as 6 mg lorazepam. But, alprazolam is shorter acting than lorazepam, so maybe you wouldn't need to dose as many times per day.

Will it feel the same? not likely IMO. In my experience, you are more likely to feel "buzzed" on alprazolam. Reletively small amounts of alprazolam have noticeable intoxication effects, such as: drowsiness, incoordination and impairment of thought process including amnesia. Lorazepam tends to be more transparent in it's action. It's not very sedating or impairing, which is actually benficial if you are using it for its medicinal properties. It doesn't kick in hard and fast like alprazolam, but it makes up for that in increased duration.

It takes a lot more lorazepam to get a xanax like buzz going though. In that regard, I would say it takes 2-3 mg to equal the effect of 1 mg alprazolam.

be safe, and have fun.

You will have a nasty few days leaving the Xanax, makes my eyes feel like they have grit in them and neves shakey
