Benzos Xanax Quick Dosage Decrease Info Withdrawl Concerns

I went to the doctor today to get a refill for my Xanax prescription (0.5mg 3x/day), and he agreed that the dosage should be increased to (0.5mg 4x/day - 4 peaches). He handed me a script and went on his way. I went to the pharmacy to try and fill my new script, and they informed me that I wasn't authorized to have the prescription filled until the 15th (today is the 7th, btw). I had them call my doctor and he told the pharmacy to fill the script sooner, but not until the 12th. Now here's my issue...I was expecting to get a new script when I got visited the doctor, so I kind of used all a few extra Xanax expecting that on the 7th I'd get a new script. But now I'm stuck with 5 .5mg xanax for the next 5 days, meaning I'm going to have to wean myself down from 1.5mg daily to .5mg daily for the next week. If it makes any difference, I've been on the medication for nearly 4 months, and consistently at the 1.5mg/day dosage for 3 months now.

For Those of you experienced with benzos...will this sudden dosage decrease cause me any noticeable effects? Will I experience any benzo withdrawals? I'm already in the grips of mild opiate withdrawal, and I'm sure that a mild benzo withdrawal on top of that would not help me out with my school or work. Any experienced users let me know what I'm in for, be it mild anxiety, to frequent panic attacks. I just want to know what I'm in for. I do have strong kava kava extract, phenibut, valerian root, GABA, and Everclear should I need to use anything to aide in withdrawal. Which of those things would be my best help, and do you think I'll need any of them at all? Should I just say fuck it and try to score a few ladders or k-pins to tide me over? I know it's a small dose and I may be overreacting, but I have little experience with taking benzos long-term.

Authorized in this context could mean your insurance will not pay for it yet. I have had both sides of the issue. An adderall prescription, same dosage and frequency, was filled 2 weeks after a previous one because I had a scrip written that day. I have also been denied.

You used the word mild, so the withdrawal will probably be mild. Personally, I prefer tapering amounts of the real thing.

do not drink the EverClear ha ha... kava kava tea would mello your symptoms out if you notice anything different....which i don't think you will anyways from my expertise.

I know this is a few days old-- hopefully you get your alprazolam today... Anyway, I just want to comment that each drug in a dual opiate and benzo addiction intensifies the effects of the other drug, so simply reducing the dose of one will decrease the overall effects of both. For this reason, I had to taper very slowly with only one drug (I chose opiates first) before tackling the other.

Dude this is unacceptable. NO one/doctor/whatever can do something like this to you. Your right as a patient if you've been on any drug for a long time with addicting qualities is your personal business and dosage shouldn't be played with unless its YOUR decision. I would call another doctor or a psychiatrist. Maybe even a nurse. That is beyond cruel to do to someone. I don't care if its only been a month.

seriously? BENZOs in general are the problem overall with society. Ive done my fair share enough to now what happens to EVERYONE.... name 1 person that hasn't been negatively affected by benzos and ill name 1 person who hasn't been negatively affected by alcohol....ha what an oxymoron :| ...and im talking about people who have done them more then once!

my advice.. try to lessen ur dose by yourself to make sure you don't become physically and mentally dependent on Benzos to live out your days..

Both alcohol and benzos are addictive, while some people think benzos are more addictive, I think they're both about the same. If you drank alcohol all day (the achieve the same effects as taking a short acting benzo a few times a day or a longer-acting one once a day) and then stopped drinking right away, you'd have withdrawals if you did it for a few weeks.

not true..... I "recently" went on a benzo/alcohol binge and I could feel the withdrawls from alcohol for only a few hours, but the benzos took like 4 days8o...fucked up shit:| ..

"if you don't believe me then try it for yourself" :o

- jk don't try it..its miserable

the pharmacy won't let you fill it because they assume you have enough of your old 3x/daily dose to last you until the 12th. Usually when someone is weaning off benzos, in the beginning they usually cut the dose of benzo's they are taking by about half, and then do smaller reductions until you are weaned off. So taking a little less for a while probably won't put you in withdrawal. It's easy to, in the very beginning, cut the dose of benzo's you are taking considerably without much adverse withdrawal actions. So dealing with this smaller dose than usual shouldn't cause too much problems over the next fews day.

Got one more question guys, but it more relates to Suboxone than Xanax. If I get started on a Suboxone program could I be made to quit/ween off my Xanax prescription? Because I'm praying that doesn't happen, as I'm one anxious, crazy, and sometimes downright suicidal mofo without being somewhat sedated.

Edit: And by the way, that script that was written on the 7th got filled on the 12th. I got the Walgreens auto-call saying my script was ready on the 11th, but when I went in to pick it up, they said my doctor wouldn't allow me to pick up the meds until the 12th. I dunno how exactly this works, but I do feel kinda jipped by the health care system. Those 4-5 days with only 1 Xanax a day were full of fights and panic attacks. Fuck the pharmaceutical industry...then again, can't live without 'em...fuck my doctor. But he's the only one in town willing to actually prescribe benzos after a local crackdown on unscrupulous scripting practices a few years ago.

^Many doctors will lower your dose of benzos to go along with Suboxone as the two definitely potentiate each other quite a bit. Any drastic reduction or complete withdrawal would have to be done very slowly though, as all of the typical issues of benzo withdrawal will be present.
