has anyone ever heard to drink grapefruit juice while taking xanax. I heard it keeps it in your system and you can feel it longer. Its funny because on my pill bottle it says to not us grapefruit juice while on the meds, lol. Does it work? Is it safe?

Theoretically it inhibits and enzyme that processes the benzos, making it more potent, but from personal experience, it barely affects it, if it affects it at all.

I'm going to move this to Basic Drug Discussion.

White grapefruit juice potentiates it. Use the search engine, you will find so much info on this topic already covered here on bluelight. I'm sure all of your questions will be answered by looking through those threads

Supposedly you're not supposed too because it affects the amount of the drug that is released into your system or allows it to build up and release at supposedly danegerous rates.. but I have never had a problem with it. I haven't noticed any difference... I like to eat grapefruit for breakfast sometimes and never stopped.. I have noticed the warning on alot of different medications too... Buspar had it and my moms cholesteral meds do too. I dont really think it's an issue maybe just something they noticed and decided to put in the warnings..

I thought that the grapefruit juice would simply interfere with your body's ability to remove the substance from your system. But that it would not potentiate it in the sense that you feel stronger affects. You just may feel it longer.

Well, as far as I know Xanax and a few other benzos, not all, are metabolized by the same CYP450 enzymes that WHITE Grapefruit juice inhibit. Make sure it's WHITE not ruby red or anything, they need ungodly amounts to actually do anything. And I've noticed Xanax lasting anywhere from 1/2 an hour to 2 hours longer if I drink 1 to 2 glasses of juice about 45 minutes before I take them. Didn't really make it feel any stronger though.

Edit: I did expect it to be stronger because it should make your peak plasma concentrations a bit higher, but as for me, didn't really "potentiate" just "extended"

Its MUST be white grapefruit juice, and it really only makes it last a little longer but the effects are usually so small they aren't noticable past a placebo effect, but yeah white grapefruit juice drank 30mins b4 your xanax dose will make it a litte bit strong and last a little big longer.

It may vary from person to person but I've tried this multiple times and really don't think it makes any noticeable difference at all, for Benzos at least. Mind you it won't do you any harm either and grapefruit juice is pretty good for so why not, juts make sure that that it isn't contraindicated for any other medication you are on. That's how I found out about the theoretical effect as I was told I must not drink grapefruit juice on a particular medication.

Try a tall glass of hot 100%pure white grapefruit juice.Hot liquids break any pill down faster any yes,in my experience white grapefruit juice does potentiate benzos to a small degree. Also, make sure you take them on an empty stomach and don't eat for a couple of hours before or after taking them.Food soaks up any pill.If this doesn't provide the desired boost you can always mix with some alcohol.Just be careful and know your limits. Also,(and I know a ton of people will disagree with me)I honestly find that sniffing them makes them way stronger. It's just a pain in the ass since its a lot of powder and burns like hell.Cut into small, thin lines and pace yourself.Good luck and happy mellow partying!

@downerhead I sniffed a 2mg line of lorazepam the other day and drank a glass of wine n got wrecked. I think sniffing it does make you get hit harder IME. Could of been placebo.
@OP I would find that if I were to take a 2mg ativan/lorazepam and drink a scotch n coke and 2 8oz glasses of canned GFJ I would be beyond twisted to the point of comatose. So IME it potentiates it quite a bit.

Lorazepam isn't water soluble, therefore it can't cross through mucous membranes in the nose and into your bloodstream, so yes, it was placebo, you got high from the drip down your throat into your stomach, that and adding another depressant to it.

Breaking the pill into a fine powder accounts for the increase in onset intensity. Not blowing it.

I doubt the OP is still reading this, as it's been nearly four years. So I'm going to close this.
There are tons of potentiation threads for your browsing pleasure!
