Ive been a moderate drinker since my late teen, now im in my middle forties i continue on the same level which is 3 5% lagers an 3 whiskey chasers tho sometimes i leave the whiskey out. I drink every orther nite and on the nites i dont drink i will either have some codeines upto 60mg or diazepam 5mg or 0.5mg xanax or pretty much any depressant i have at hand! But always stay at low doses, then if i try to leave a nite off competly ...ni booze or pills i sleep but it takes longer to drift off an i dont feel very rested when i do wake up! So how far down the addicts road have l gone?

honestly, you have barely taken your first step. its a good thing that after all those years you remain able to keep it in some kind of control and not had it escalate to the extents that many others do.

dont feel down about the length of time you have used alcohol and downers for, feel happy and proud that you havent spiralled out of control.

I agree with Kay jay. Here's the problem with the word addict - it's defined by professionals as "causing bad consequences in your life based on your intake of drugs/alcohol" the fact that you've been taking a drug daily for years might not constitute "an addict" according to professionals if your behavior doesn't bring negative consequences that interfere with life . But in the non professional who doesn't experience it personally if you're taking anything everyday you're addicted wether it's sex , cheesburgers, marijuana , chocolate, toilet paper eating (it's real) can be addictions . You decide for yourself do you feel it's controlling you? Do you sometimes wish to go longer without anything and be clean or do you enjoy the way you live? I guess that's where you're at you definitely aren't spiraling out taking 100 mg Valium or 400 mg codeine daily waking up shaking freezing in detox so you're good now but those pills sneak up on you be care ful

My opinion probably won't be to popular but fuck it(or butt fuck it your choice) but if you have to consciously take a night off or try to take a night off in my opinion you are an addict. Does this mean you will get withdrawals probably not,no! But addiction isn't only about physical dependence as a matter of fact it usually isn't, it can be strictly a psychological dependence!
