my wife has had a bottle of xanax bars for the longest time she has a few refills too, she only takes them if she is stressed out and takes like a half of one at a time....reading some of these posts i am really feeling stupid because i used to be WD for heroin sick as f*ck back in the day while she had a prescription of these. so if i would have taken them things i would have felt alot better??:X

Xanax will definitely help; however, I prefer Klonopin because it has a longer half life in the body. But yeah, zannies will help a lot.

Benzos of all types will help with a certain portion of W/D. Mainly sleep and the RLS that is so common with opiate W/D. Xanax is only a short term benzo (it hits you faster but fades away within 3hrs or so) while Klonopin has a 36hr half life and I find that more effective as a tool to help get you through this.

I'm prescribed 3mg klonopin per day for anxiety but when I had some extra pills one month I tried them during a quick opiate taper and they worked wonders but lose effectiveness when used for days in a row. So I would say only take them when in EXTREME discomfort. (Also watch yourself with xanax, it can become addictive as well).

If you have any other concerns/help with dealing with opiate W/D just feel free to ask me, I've been down that road more times then I care to count! :!

as everyone has said, yes they will help... BUT try not to cross addict yourself. benzos are not fun to come off of and not easy either. harder than heroin.. i, personally, would take them in "little" doses when you have very bad pains and discomforts increasing IF needed.

If you're on heroin, and you want off - GOOD. Take the xanax, it will help. So what if you get addicted to xanax. What is the long term harm? Generic is inexpensive, the man is trying to get off HEROIN, having xanax as a crutch should be the least of his concerns, and could be beneficial. Its addictive, but it beats the hell outta being a heroin addict...

actually i was just asking a question, i haven't done heroin in a long time. not by choice but because this town is the ghey. i was just kicking myself in the ass because when i lived in pittsburgh i was tore the hell up on dope bad and my wife has always had xanax and i never even thought to try them for WD, just always thought of how to get more dope. i never want to be addicted like that again, fortunatly i can go and cop, do dope, then come back to my little hick town and be fine. if i had access to it everyday, then who knows, it would be tough.

Is this a serious post? As a harm reduction forum I don't think we should even allow this. For your information, xanax withdraw is way worse than opiate withdraw and has one key factor opiate withdraw is missing....the possibility of death. So please, if you don't know what you're talking about, don't speak. Benzo addiction is very dangerous and just because it's cheap (which it won't be when you become tolerant) doesn't mean it will always be there.

i've heard high dose ativan(lorazepam) is best for treating withdrawls. plus its a medium duration benzo with a half life of about 16 hours.

maybe you could find a sympathetic doctor?

or you could just use the xanax. but i guarantee you'll be muchin them like crazy. xanax just wears off way to quick.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

benzodiazepines are DEADLY pertaining to withdrawal. you can't cold turkey that one.

From personal experience benzos help, but not very much in my particular case. I still had horrible withdrawal symptoms, but it was slightly lessened. In my opinion it is helpful, but it does not ward off withdrawal. A better example would be if full on opiate withdrawal is 100%, then xanax would reduce to it to around 85%. Not much help, but it does do something.

OMG I KNOW IM ON CLONAZAPAM!
BUT ITS BETTER THAN BEING ADDICTED TO HEROIN, HAVING TO MEET UP WITH SHADY DANGEROUS PEOPLE TO INJECT A DRUG CUT WITH WHO KNOWS WHAT. I JUST GO TO CVS BECAUSE I HAVE A DOCTOR!!!

You guys think i'm violating harm reduction? Some people need benzos, and if he gets addicted to them while getting off heroin, it is WORTH IT. heroin will ruin is very life, taking every penny he earns, he will be a slave in the long run. Xanax he could take for as long as needed, why even bring up w/d? Why stop if thats what helps him get off arguably the most addictive drug on earth.

Sheesh what planet are you guys from?

Your name, newbie, is very fitting. Considering I have been on benzos for about 3 years now. Do I notice any negative changes in intellect or personality? No. - Sure, it builds up tolerance, but you're comparing it to heroin? Saying benzo w/d is worse than heroin w/d, is because of the seizures and rebound anxiety correct? Did it ever cross your mind that heroin is so very addicting that most people dont just go through w/d's and never look back. If their habit is serious, heroin is very powerful, and can consume your soul. No I dont use heroin, ive tried it 2 times; turn on the TV, read the forums. The person is likely to continue to use the heroin, instead of going through, what you claim, as easier withdrawls. Someone on 2mg of Xanax a day, or someone shootin a few bags of brown powder a day, who is more productive in the long run? Who has a higher risk of blood born disease? Who is more likely to overdose? Who is more likely to lose their entire net worth and family? People go on Bupe to get off heroin. bupe is a very very strong, long acting sythetic opiate. It effects your adrenal system, your liver, and you wanna talk withdrawl?

I'd take 2-4mg of klonopin, or xanax a day over Bupe/Methadone maint / heroin anyday. Some cases need Suboxone ect.

Do you ever see a guy on the street, homeless, popping xanax for a euphoria?

Yes, my post was serious, newbie.

calm down. please. i know what you mean, i used to do heroin, now i don't, i'm on suboxone and i know where you're coming from too because i TO have a script for klonopin and xanax for medical purposes and have for the last three years of my life. yes, picking up my scripts every month from the pharmacy is MUCH better than going to shady places. i know my medication hasn't been handled by 1,000,000,000,000 hands.
