Hey guys, now please dont bite my head off for posing a question that im sure has already been asked many times, or possably it has'nt, i couldnt find a single thing on it......
Basicly my work has come to grips with the so-called australian workplace drug issue, and after the government approved a radical means of testing employees for drug concentraions in there dna, my place of employment has taken a huge step in being pioneers towards this issue.
The test is something similer to a B.A.C test that you would recive during a random breath test.
The device looks alote like a alchometer, except the application is slightly varied, insted of your breath being the sample, its your saliva!
Now rumor has it that the device can only show results from the last 8 hours, but i dont have room for speculation.
You see becasue of the pioneers status, my employer is going to be testing everyone, they have however give everyone a 10 week amnisty to get clean...lol..kinda defeats the purpous if you ask me! But i supose with over 2000 employees to test and a good majority on drugs, be it any form, they have to give leway or face a loosing battle to regain fresh emplyees!!!
Anyway, my question is....IF I WAS TO HAVE MY DNA TESTED FOR TRACES OF DRUGS (by means of a saliva sample), HOW LONG WOULD THE COMMON DRUGS ACTUALLY BE VISABLE IN MY SALIVA/DNA?????
thanks for your time guys :) any responce would be much apprechiated :)

Rusty: do you know what the specific name of the test is?
This is some general info from here
Saliva analysis is also a developing technology. Currently, there are limited analytical facilities in Australia, however, established United States laboratories are accessible. Sample collection is relatively quick, noninvasive and resistant to tampering although as with urinalysis, adequate supervision is required. Saliva analysis has been shown to be useful in determining very recent drug use (1-36 hours). It is not considered economically viable or practical for continuous drug use monitoring.
There is also some specific information (although without times involved) about a product called "LifePoint" here and here and there is a link there to request more info if you wanna follow through on that. I think the most enlightening thing I found on one of those pages was that the test is designed to "reveal the presence of pharmacologically active drug in an individual at the time of testing".
[speculation time] I'm thinking that this would mean that half lifes are still applicable to the outcome of this type of test.. [/end speculation]
That's all I've managed to find, hope it helps you in some way :)
[edit] And what do you know, the one link on that page mayday posted, that i didn't open was the one which had the goods! 8) [/edit]

Dont Victorian Cops do salival analisys of drivers? Similar to Blood/Alcohol breath tests?
Can the police tests show indications instantly, or do they need to send the results to the lab? (as I dont know what test they use)

To the best of my knowledge mayday, i dont belive the victoian police force were able to use saliva tests for several reasons, one was the inadiquate proof that the device could show an acurate reading, and the other reason is becasue of the privacy act, according to the privacy act, they cant take someones saliva becasue it contains ur dna structure, and thats against the law, without your permition, thus the reason all of the employee's at my workplace had to sign a oh&s vic drug scan contract, alowing approved personell to perform the tests on us, randomly or where there is such eveidance leading them to belive you are under the infulence of a drug!!... funny thing is, we werent really given much choice about signing it, i mean face it, if u dont sign it your basicly admiting guilt!!
Thanks for that info MezZedUp much apprechiated :)
