Dissociatives Winter is coming so I'm wondering how can I use Therapeutic Doses Of Dextromethorphan without it affecting my recreational tolerance?

So I haven't used any type of dissociative drug for years now but I do need to use DXM at therapeutic doses & I was wondering at what dose & or length of time does it take for permanent tolerance to occur?

I'm guessing taking a 30mg therapeutic every 8 hours one day a week or less shouldn't cause problems but I know things are not always as simple as they seem especially when it comes to the homeostasis of the brain.

I highly doubt therapeutic doses of DXM are going to have any significant effect on your perma tolerance for other dissos (if that is what you are asking about). It could even be beneficial. I have read about neurological phenomenon where very mild stimulation of receptors can produce the opposite effect and actually re-sensitize them and decrease tolerance.

I have experienced this myself with muscimol and benzo dependence. Another example might be ULDN (ultra low dose naloxone).

Out of curiosity what were your goals with the muscimol & Benzo Dependence?

Also you said it won't effect perma tolerance to other dissociative but would it effect a DXM trip itself like is taking a break after therapeutic doses necessary or some prefer to do it that way for harm reduction sake etc. ?


I got a slightly off topic question about Memantine as I wonder how high a dose can be used daily for a similar period of time as DXM without effecting perma tolerance or tolerance in anyway actually.

Medical literature suggests it can reverse receptor rigidity caused by benzo dependence by mildly stimulating the receptor. There is no official study on it, it was just a footnote in a different study. I tried it out, and it did seem to work.

That's just a guess from me. I'm not all too experienced with dissos, never developed perma tolerance. Someone else could probably answer better than me. Maybe a question for the Psychedelics subforum.

I don't think it would be necessary. DXM's effects are dose dependent, it's pharmacology changes drastically between therapeutic and recreational doses. I don't think small therapeutic doses would cause any significant tolerance to a future megadose.

That's interesting was it easy for you to acquire out of curiosity? I'm currently slowly but surely lowering my dose of benzos I'm on equivalent of 0.5mg Clonazepam daily.

Muscimol? Yeah, it comes from amanita muscaria and is legal. Finding high quality product is a little trickier, a lot of shitty stuff out there that contains ibotenic acid and muscarine which are toxic and you don't want. Don't buy it from a vape shop. Some of that stuff isn't even muscimol and contains synthetic tryptamines.
