A body found in a Green Bay-area river was that of Michael T. Philbin, son of Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, a source told the Green Bay Press Gazette.
Michael Philbin, 21, was last heard from Sunday at about 2 a.m. local time. He had gone to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to visit friends.
Authorities recovered the body of a 20- to 25-year-old man from the icy waters of the Fox River in Oshkosh, about 50 miles south of Green Bay, on Monday afternoon but said they would not publicly identify it until Tuesday, after family had been notified.
But the Press Gazette reported Monday that a source had confirmed the body was that of Michael Philbin.
The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department said a security guard at an Oshkosh business along the Fox River saw a man on the ice early Sunday morning yelling for help.
According to the Oshkosh Northwestern newspaper, police spokesman Joe Nichols said foul play is not suspected, but the matter remains under investigation.
Authorities did say that, at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, a man called police to report he believed he heard someone fall through the ice of the Fox River.
The elder Philbin, 50, has been the offensive coordinator of the Packers since 2007 and interviewed last week for the Dolphins' head coaching vacancy.
The Packers had a bye this past weekend, and will host the Giants in the Divisional Round next Sunday.
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Philbin was in Oshkosh on Monday, and said the team has contingency plans in place if Philbin can't be there this week.
"We're supporting Joe and his family the best we can, and we're holding out hope that this comes to a positive conclusion," McCarthy said.
