So I have a question about alcohol withdrawal. I have been drinking a looooot lately. The past couple months I have gotten either completely wasted or black-out drunk every single night. There were a couple days that I did not. But recently it has been more intense, and I have even started to have a couple drinks during the day (this is pretty recent.)

I want to know, will I have withdrawal symptoms if I stop doing this every night? Almost all of my drinking is only during the night time.

Yes, yes you will, IMHO. I wake up each day after 8 hours of sleep shaking like a cell phone on vibrate. Without a drink, I feel like I am in the midst of a cocaine overdose all day long. I cannot go for any more than 12 hours or so without a drink before I feel the need to dial 911 / check myself into a hospital. Also, I have a very fast metabolism if that counts for anything in terms of X hours = yQuantityWithdrawal.

God help us,
Cy

drinking WD is by far the worst of everything there is. Go to the hospital (do your self a favor) else you could have a seizure and die.
No joke.

Once the shakes start go to the hosptial

Chances are you will experience some pretty severe negative withdrawal symptoms. I would work closely with a doctor to safely get you off ethanol.

if you want to quit at this point you will most likely need some librium or valium to make sure you don't have a seizure from the alcohol withdrawal

You guys really think I will have sever withdrawal even if it's only really at night that I drink? I'm pretty scared.. Every day I go for at least 8 hours without drinking and I don't really shake, maybe a little, I get anxiety, but I have anxiety in general... I don't know.. I hope I'm not screwed.

It's been almost 3 months of this every night thing.. probably 5 total nights out of that time that I didn't get drunk.

I have general anxiety as well. After a ten hour shift at work, where I cannot drink, I definitely find myself in the wake and wane of many panic attacks. I also seem to get fine motor tremors. (It can often get so bad I cannot hold a cigarette)

A few sources I have read say EtOH w/d does not begin for ~72 hours - I do not believe this. (Look at the terminal elimination of alchy)

Go so long as you can without drinking. If at ANY moment you feel you are in danger, then get medical help.

I was on 3mg/day Klonopin for 1.5 years and quit cold turkey with no perceptible withdrawal. Drinking heavy for three months... as I've said before... "God help us."

Don't ignore what your body is telling you.

Thanks for your reply. Ya I guess I will have to see.. cuz I'm not going to have this bottle for long and broke. But I guess I'll just have to figure it out on my own, I really hope I get lucky and I haven't completely screwed myself over...

I think that depends on your body. I went wild about 2 years ago and drank 5 nights a week for 2-3 months and stopped. I had no withdrawals or anything. I do suffer from anxiety since childhood but did not notice any change in frequency. I drank shots followed by beer. I would say I had 6-10 drinks a night. I did have 2-3 day breaks in between because of work. This is my own personal expierience and everybody is different.

My girlfriend is a recovering alcoholic, she's been clean for like 80 days! :) You can do it! No AA or anything like that, I don't believe in AA but whatever floats your boat.

Out of curiosity, how did she ''do it,'' when you're terrified 23.5 hours of the day (while sober) that you are going to stroke and seize out any second?

I mean, literal, at-the-moment fear. Rapid heart, sweating, full on fight or flight response that does not end. And has no flight option.

I want to get better myself. :)

Man.. I'm so drunk right now ( i think?..) and I feel absolutely nothing, I'm just empty, depressed at most. I have drank at least a third of a handle of vodka (but i'm still goin') and I'm not having fun at all.. this sucks. I want this to be a warning to others out there who are starting to drink a lot, the fun goes away, and then your just left with shit to deal with and no friends. so there. if i can stop one person then i'm happy.

Well we used benzodiazepines as needed for the anticonvulsant properties at first then the rest was willpower.

I recommend you work with a doctor so you can get a short term prescription of something like diazepam.

When things get to the level described above I think you really need to just come to harsh terms with yourself that you've got a problem you might not be able to get through on your own. While posting and sharing on here is great and helpful in a lot of ways, there is no shame at all in seeking professional medical help.

Wishes to you for all the best and keep us informed on how you are doing.

Go to the hospital before you have a seizure. Get some benzodiazepines and do a taper. I tapered for 4 months with diazepam and was able to glide right off it. That's the rout to go, go to some meetings to.

Yes I would strongly urge you to take my advice to ask a doctor for help on this, to eliminate the risk of seizures or otherwise generally negative symptoms.

idk why so many people on BL put AA on blast it is very helpful to make good sober friends and working the steps has helped millions of people get and stay sober

I went through a period of about a year when I was off heroin..and I would drink 5 or 6 heavy glasses of bourbon a night, every night..going through almost 2 liters a week.. I never experienced any withdrawal. By like 5:00 every night, I'd find myself really craving a drink.. but never feeling any psychical symptoms like I do with H. Even when I just stopped the drinking completely..I was totally fine. I feel like real alcohol withdrawal takes a long time to develop..it's not like an opiate where just a few weeks of using everyday can get you psychically dependent. But, maybe that's just my experience.

You will withdraw, but you will not withdrawal. lol

Get a doctor to Rx you some meds to help you taper successfully.

Best of luck!
