I know all drugs affect people differently but most people seem to get broadly similar reactions off E. What i was wondering is why in some people (like me!) a couple of strong pills will cause my jaw to go completely out of control. Some friends are worse than me but some show hardly any gurning effects off several. What mechanism causes the gurning and why do i get it so much worse than so many other people? I never really used to notice it much but i think it's become a lot worse the last few times i've taken it.

I think it gets worse over time and use. I'm a very light user, every 3/4 months and even now I don't get gurning at all. I've got friends who having pilled less than me and try to chew their left ear off! I know a fair number of long term users and all of them gurn so I think it happens to us all eventually. I'm hoping my low usage will keep both my tolerance low and my gurn close to zero.
Maybe its down to your own brain chemistry or diet. I've been told Magnesium tablets can reduce your gurn. Maybe not remove it but enough to make your jaw less painful in the morning/makie you look less crazy :p

i noticed its totally different depending on the pill used.
the jaw clench is always there, just that the intencity varies.

I usually take 4 or 5 magnesium tablets before I roll and another couple in the morning when I leave, and I find that the jaw clenching is reduced to such an extent where I don't really notice it at all.
Before I started taking the mag. tabs. I would regularly chew a small crater in the side of my cheek.

Does anyone else here chew the edge of their tongue so it's all swollen up by the next morning? Not to choking hazard proportions but strange nonetheless :P

I try very hard not to grind my teeth. Too many day afters in agony swearing that I would never do drugs again because of my jaw. I have gotten to the point now that I don't grind too often. I think for me I can control it mentally. I used to chew gum, but for me that made it worse. The only exception for me now is when I do nitrous while rolling I tend to bite through both sides of my cheek near my lips, and also the edges of my tongue. I do nitrous much less often because of this. I actually wore a groove across the back of my two top front teeth where my bottom teeth rubbed.

I have done this on more than one occasion. Usually I have also chewed up most of my mouth as well.
Areas commonly left hurting the next day are...
Inside of cheeks (biting down on them)
Sides of the tongue (biting on)
Interior part of mouth right above and below lips (biting)
Tip of my tongue (from scraping it repeatdly against my lower teeth
I would take the magnesium to battle the clenches but I'm weird I actually enjoy the jaw chatters I get. To me it wouldnt be rolling without them (yes Im aware thats pathetic)

Yes, preloading and postloading with magnesium should help you. You can train yourself not to chew on your cheeks - Just try to have a sober friend remind you not to chomp on yourself once your roll sets in. If you keep reminding yourself, you can do it! Or, try keeping gum in your mouth, something to amuse your oral fix.. :P
:)
good luck!

Mouthpieces, people, mouthpieces! Oh, my jaw is hurting just from reading these, you poor things! I'm telling you if you've already experienced the jaw-phenomenon, next time PREPARE! Pacifiers may look dumb, but who gives a rats ass if you don't have to deal w/pain later on, right? Also, one of my girls likes to cut the nipples off binky's and just chew on two of 'em the whole night. Hey, it lasts longer than gum.

Its all about the magnesium.
Mind over matter works too, but not as well, because the tension is still there.
I don't really have a problem with trismus, probably because I have only rolled 17 times.

I gurn like an absolute animal!!
Not really holes in my cheeks thing, but more like my teeth are loose for a couple of days afterwards. Also I can dislocate my jaw and pop it back into place, and when Im rollin this happens like every minte. For the next day sometimes it pops out everytime I talk!!
Iv found eating those really chewy lolly sweets helps. They taste loverly and you can really chew em.
I want to try pre-loading cos Iv heard a lot about magnesium on these very boards.
Im in the uk, so how would I go about buying some. What are some brands in the uk??

i used to do it so bad that the day after, my teeth would have moved so much that I couldnt close my mouth properly... over the next couple of days, the teeth would slowly move back to normal tho..... its just mind control... cept sometimes you can be sofar gone that doesnt even work, so tab the mag ;]

Keep in mind........Magnesium will relax your muscles.....NOT just your jaw. If you take too much you'll just want to sit around. I keep my mouth occupied by basically chewing on mini lightsticks. You have to be careful to not chew through them so you don't end up chewing too much as if you were chewing gum.
I'll chew on light sticks.......gum.....cough drops or candy.

Funny I have this problem everytime I roll. Supplements dont seem to help in the least bit. Its not that I grind my teeth I chew on the sides of my cheecks. Only problem is it seems to only happen when I am asleep. When I wake up I have terrible cuts and sores on the sides. I can control myself not to due it when I am awake so I guess I am in a hopless situation :-( :-(

Squeaks- if you do it in your sleep, ask your dentist about a mouth guard.
I wouldn't recommend biting a glow stick. I've heard of people breaking them and getting covered in luminous goo. I've heard of a girl who actually swallowed part (god knows how).
Magnesium in doses of 500 -1500mg is pretty helpful in my experience.
As for why some people don't get it, I don't know of a proven explanation, but I imagine it's just like some of the other unpleasant side-effects like nausea - some people are just more sensitive than others.

IMHO I think it has a lot to do with your mind "set" (set and setting) I have gone through stages with E, if you think you're going to gurn you will, if you think you're going to hallucinate you will. I have gone through gurning, E-tardation, hallucinating, "I just need to dance" and memory loss stages, yes it has to do with dose and yes magnesium can help but personally I think it's 50/50 chemical/mindset as to what happens. Oh.... and then there was that "these beans are no good" stage, damn that sucked.
Its all in your head, try convincing yourself "this is gonna be the longest roll I've ever had and all I'm gonna do is ________ all night" next time you drop. :P

And if you really take too much you'll just want to sit around on the toilet because you will have awful diarrhea. If you're like me you'll have it bad for about half a day and for the next week, well, the mail comes more often and much faster. Just a warning...
And until I read this thread I just thought "gurning" was just another funky UK term for "rolling" I didn't know it refered to the jaw clenching. You learn something new every day (well actually it's something old since other people already knew it and I wasn't the first to discover it, but you get my drift)

hehe damn the clenches....
last time i rolled was the frist time i had a dummy, damn it was good.....
beats having sore teeth, sore tongue, saw ne thing..
cept i chewed on the thing so much my jaw is sore from chewing too much!!
