Why does POT stinks ?

my knowledge in Horticulture is rather limited and of all the plants i know, there is only two thats sorts of smells from the plant itself.

Marijuana and Camphor Tree...
my question is: Why does the MJ smells like that?
What makes it smell like that?
Why couldn't be smelling like roses or jasmine ? :)

Why is water wet?

Because plants all produce different oils and they all smell different. Terpenoids and flavonoids give cannabis their smell and flavour, there's 5 main ones which give the distinctive smell and taste, mono and sesqui terpenes, alpha- and beta-pinene, limonene, myrcene, and beta-phalandrene.

Because a) the compounds them selves smell strongly and b) the are 'light' enough to get into the air.

"Why do the compounds themselves smell strongly?" Botanically, we don't know why the plant was selected to be stinky; physiologically, because the bind to the right oderant receptors in your nose.
 
Its possible, and some theorize, that a plant might evolve towards a stronger odor because it positively affects survival rate. Cannibis has been well documented and cultured/bred over the past 3000 years (at least) as a sacrement used worldwide, and if its relationship with Mankind caused its varients to grow to be more pleasing to human senses, it would not be the first plant to have done so.

That said, do you REALLY want pot to smell more like other plants (rose/jasmine)??
...My point being, I wouldnt mind having the Amorphophallus titanum (Corpse Flower) smell a little more like a rose, but then that takes all the fun out of a giant stinking Philodendron that uses meat-eating insects to spread its seed, IMO

now that's interesting.
to me the smell of some buds is quite nice, i wouldnt' want to smell any other.

well do you think one day we will be able to smoke CK ONE buds ? :8

becuase they don't produce the same chemicals. pretty simple ;)
