why do you watch movies?

Lots of good responses and my reasons would be a combination of a number of them.

Entertainment. Lots of facets to this. I'll watch movies I like over and over again, for different reasons.

Mood. Tricky one here. I like dark movies, so if I'm in a good mood and I watch one, it can actually improve my good mood, particularly if it is well done. I'll spend a good amount of time afterwards thinking about a good film, which is stimulating to the mind for me. I can be in a really poor mood and actually have it improved by a movie. Sort of a "at least I'm not as screwed up as that person" sort of thing. Heh.

The details of moviemaking. I did some video production in college, and I really enjoy aspects of a film that some people miss or just don't care about. Character development or stunning cinematography is highly enjoyable to me, even if the concept of the film itself isn't a happy subject.

To learn. A lot of documentaries have sent me in search of more knowledge about certain subjects.

'Course, then there are adult movies, which is a whole other can of worms. :D
