Why do we see spiders on DPH?

I personally have seen only one spider, and it was more of a misty outline of one. I have read many reports that included spiders, why is this? There is a theory with evolution that we had evolved to be afraid of spiders, snakes, etc. because they were dangerous. This is why people are so afraid of them. I have seen reports of people seeing snakes also. Any other thoughts on this?

There's a theory that humans (and other primates) are hard-wired to recognize and fear snakes, spiders and maybe a few other creatures. This means that even if you grew without any contact with another human you'd still have a natural fear response upon seeing a snake or spider. It's probably got to do with their characteristic shape and pattern of movement. The visual system works through different clusters of cells in the brain that each recognize separate components of our vision. For example you have cells that only respond to red light, you have cells that only respond to diagonal lines moving left, or right, etc. Somewhere in the brain there'd by some cells that work together to recognize the slithering movement of a snake, this being hard-wired in the brain would then link up to a fear center in the brain (the amygdala) and trigger a fear response.

It could be that DPH in some way or another makes your visual system misinterpret other objects or shadows as snakes and spiders...

Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride begins to act as a deliriant in larger doses (roughly 250mgs+), depending on the person.
It has mildly sedating effects at doses starting at 50mgs.

Deliriants cause "real life" hallucinations unlike psychedelics such as LSD or Psilocybin. They can become frightening, or even life threatening depending on the severity of the hallucinations experienced.
Such a class of substance isn't commonly chosen for recreational purposes due to their hostile nature, and inability to decipher reality from hallucination.

Even smaller doses of dph caused me to have visual disturbances (taking 50-75 mg for allergy itchies) I had woken up one morning and could have sworn there was an army of ants on the wall and that spooked me for a minute. But no other medicines- chlor trimeton, hyrdroxyzine, Claritin, etc ever gave me these effects.

Same here but it only started happening after taking a recreational dose once. I feel like I'm sorta tripping off therapeutic doses and it also makes me anxious, restless, and startle very easily. Doxylamine doesn't cause this but DPH/DMH does.

I see. I feel like it plays off of the fears of the user. Like St3ve said, it is hardwired into our brains to fear creatures such as snakes and spiders. I don't quite know DPH can tap into it like it does, and we may never know. I can say that it is quite a unique substance.

Oh, wow, Ive never experienced the hallucinatory effects before, but know about them.... I would usually take about 150-250mgs. Which is generally just below the threshold of delirious visuals. But I do personally have a higher tolerance to drugs than most people I know, that might be why.

I don't ever plan on attempting it, lol Derliriants scare me O.o

i remember taking DPH to get high, i'd never do it now but man. Basically you see like lightning bolts that dart in the center of your vision constantly. kinda like pulsating and when it happens fast it can look like a spider i guess. i always though of that as lightning though. the crazy shit about DPH was when you start like doing shit and then snapping out of it and realizing your not doing what you were doing. it would freak me out every time. like i was in my kitchen once and i got a bowl put it on the table, got the milk from the fridge and a spoon and cereal and everything, poured it started eating it.... then i droped my spoon.... i bent down to pick it up and realized there was no spoon. then i realized i was standing in the doorway of my room. Like i would get my laptop out and play like four games of tetris and then snap out of it and all the sudden im in a totally different room lying down and had no idea what was going on. i remember getting completely dressed and then all the sudden i was just standing in the middle of my room naked. You like do shit in your head and never actually do it in real life. its fucking strange its like dreaming while ur awake. Those little mind trips were CONSTANT for like 3 hours and youre short term memory is totally fucked so you have no idea what the fuck is going on. on top of that you get like real hallucinations too. like i remember walking home down the a bike path at night and there would be people walking their dogs and as soon as they got close enough for me to see their faces they just vanished, and i mean like straight up dissappeared into thin air out of nothing. one time i was walking down the street and saw these three guys raking a lawn at like 3 am, but there was fucking snow everywhere so i knew i was seeing shit. I also saw a handicapped fat lady feeding like an army of chiuahuas wearing a t shirt, like i was 100% convinced that was what i was looking at but it just didnt make sense and then as i got closed it turned out to be a snow bank.

Now that prob sounds pretty interesting to some people but holy fuck its not worth it. even though i enjoyed the strange experience, DPH MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE SHIT. like you literally cant walk and cant talk. you try to stand up and u fall all over the place not because ur relaxed but because its incredibly difficult to get the strength to move. talking sounds completely foreign and YOUR WHOLE BODY ACHES FOR LIKE 4 HOURS its totally not worth it

^I couldn't agree more, with everything clocksandshit said. I once took a "recreational" dose, I don't remember exactly how much, but it produced very similar effects to those described above. Everything about it was awful. From what I've read about fever induced delirium, it's pretty much what you experience with diphenhydramine. Confused, sick, tired, woozy, moaning and rocking back and forth... Awful. And now I can't even take diphenhydramine for sleep or allergies because I get restless leg syndrome and even at very low doses I still get twinges of the woozy, sick feeling and I just can't do it anymore.

I do not recommend for fun.

As to why we see spiders, I agree with the idea that it's because your brain is hardwired to recognize them as dangerous, and the dph causes your brain to fire off random neurons (or something), and in the general sense of panic and despair that characterizes the diphenhydramine trip, it starts coughing out random images which it then interprets as threatening.

My doc advised me against taking dph for anything other than allergies. Being I'm a guy and there is some that believe dph effects prostate function
