so i have no benzo tolerance but i have used alot of benzos in the past, like two weeks ago, i took a xanax BAR and a half and today i got a prescription for the weakest xanax's for my anxiety (i wish they gave me a much higher dose) but i took only two on an empty stomach, and i have a pretty good buzz, when i would take the xanax bars 2mg i usually would eat right before i take it, so maybe that has something to do with it? also i got a weird generic kind of xanax with the imprint 027 on the back of it, do you think certain brands of medications are stronger than others? because i've had these 0.25 xanax's in the hospital before and as i expected they didn't do anything at all, considering it takes alot to mess me up even without a tolerance, i'm just kinda surprised that just taking two of these weak xanax's even gave me a buzz, because normally they never do, and i usually take 4 times the higher dose to get a buzz like this it's weird, any opinions anyone?

With low tolerance, I don't think it's surprising to get noticeable effects from 0.5mg alprazolam.

I think people tend to take excessive doses of xanax in an attempt to get recreational effects from it. While 2mg would probably have me pretty obviously messed up, I don't think it's subjectively any better than a low dose (benzos just aren't euphoric, and upping the dose doesn't change that. I think some people refuse to accept this). Because of this, I think the concept of drug sensitization plays a very big role in this particular scenario. Simply put, the more familiar you become with a drug, the better you can recognize it's effects at low doses, effects that a novice user would simply overlook. Since you have experience with obviously intoxicating doses, you have learned to discern the more subtle low-dose effects on yourself. In conclusion, alprazolam is stronger than people give it credit for.

Agree with the above posts. While you might value the effects of 2 mg alprazolam, 0.5 mg will still have an effect that is noticeable with no tolerance.

but 2mg should be alot strongr than 0.5 way stronger, but for some reason, i felt the same buzz from 0.5 i think it had to do with fact i haven't aten all day and took it, and also maybe the kind of xanax i got prescribed because every medication has several of the same mg's and each one is a slightly stronger or weaker

IME it's always the same effect whether I take a lot or a little, I just become more tired with higher doses never any more "high". Benzos are one of the drugs that I only take for their real reason (although I'm not prescibed) and don't really abuse for the sake of getting "high" because of this exact reason. More or less it's all the same feeling once it affects you. If you getting something from .5 mg due to tolerance or whatever then you're just feeling the drug. I doubt it has to do with food. Have you ever taken this low of a dose before or have you always taken the 2mg? Maybe you're just surprised that this low dose is working for you even though you've never given it a try that low and that's why it seems so strange... ?

EDIT- also how did you take it? maybe is this your first time trying it sublingually or something along those lines?

I would have to say it prolly has to do with the fact that your stomach was empty and aided in faster and probably more efficient absorption leading to peak possible b/a. Plus i agree with one of the above posts sayin you become aware of a drugs affects over time so in turn you can sense the affects a lot easier. Alprazolam should give some pretty good therapeutic affects at .5mgs on an empty stomach.

On a side note is alprazolam ever prescribed sublingually or taken often sublingually? If so, why? I personally find the taste of alprazolam to be one of the most foul tasting pharms made ime so it would be hard for me to take them that way.

Basic dosing questions like this are not Other Drugs material.

I have no benzo tolerance, and 0.5mg is all I need to feel the effects.

In the future, this would be more appropriate for Basic Drug Discussion.
