Misc Why can't I draw the solution?

Alright this is getting annoying. First I will let you know that as I don't have a micron filter (which I intend to buy very, very shortly), I use either Q-tips or rolled-up-tight cotton ball 'pieces.'

It seems to me that whenever I use the saline solution (haven't really used anything else), say I draw 50 units: I get about 10 units when I draw it up after doing the prep work. In fact, I just drew up 80 units of saline solution (to make sure it doesn't get pasty) and got 10 units!

Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Side note: even though I have ocular albinism and am legally blind, I have not blown a vein since I started this time around. Yay!

Just a passing comment: micron filters are "use once only", so you will need many of them, not just one.

Regarding the sucking of the solution into the syringe, the needle shouldn't matter since you suck the solution in with the needle removed, am I right? If not (if you are using syringes with non removable needles) that may be the problem. Filling syringes with the needle on is a drag even when you've got fully filtered solution. As particles get through, as they would as you are not using 0.22 micron filters, they clog the needle for good, especially needles as thin as 31G.

Why not try the other method? Use a 5 or 10 ml syringe without a needle, put tissue paper in the barrel one 5th of the length, compact the tissue paper, backload the syringe with another syringe, then *push* your solution through. In this set-up you have something closer to, though by no means as safe as, a real micron filter.

In other words, soak it up with the cotton, put the cotton in the dosing syringe, then 'push' it through into the back of the rig with the needle?

That makes a shit-ton more sense if that's what you're getting at.

First put wet cotton in the filtering syringe. Push the cotton to the bottom of the syringe.

Then backload the syringe. The solution will be stopped by the cotton plug but be careful all the same not to spill as pressure will be created when you reinsert the plunger into the filtering syringe.

Carefully reinsert the plunger and push the solution though the cotton plug, out of the filtering syringe into a clean (desinfected?) glass. The solution in the glass should be reasonable crystal clear.

What are you shooting?

Sometimes the inactive ingredients will soak up a lot of the water, which accounts for the discrepancy.

Yes it would help to know what kind of pills you are attempting to shoot.. If you are shooting some kind of ER formulation that gels when water contacts it, you will not be able to draw up very much, if any of the solution. Also when simply cotton filtering, pills tend to ruin needles due to insoluble particles getting thru the cotton and clogging the needle tip.

Micron filters are imperative to have when shooting pills.. .2 micron filters can filter out bacteria, and every other inactive ingredient in the pills leaving you with a clear final slution, containing only the drug you are attempting to extract from the pill.

Just to give you some perspective, cotton can only filter out ~50 micron particles and larger. This means many insoluble particles and bacteria/bad shit can get thru cotton very easily.

Also about to pick up some dexmethylphenidate, not sure what brand, will get back to you on that.

But many thanks, it took a few practice tries (about five or six pills worth) before I got it but I definitely got it. :D Still need more practice at registering the vein, but at least I haven't blown any thus far.

Edit: Also having trouble getting the cotton OUT of the syringe (I only have one dosing syringe left and don't want to waste my rigs by taking the needle off to make one, which is not meant to go back on). What's the best method?

Hair tweezers are the best. Also, better use a big enough syringe, big enough to accommodate the tweezers.

Yeah, I'm going to the pharmacy in a little bit anyway to fill my Focalin, so I'll just ask for a dosing syringe. I just bought a pill crusher there (they gave me shit so I told them sometimes the pills get stuck in my throat so I crush the IRs and put them in apple sauce), so I'll just say I'm going to crush and take orally with the dosing syringe. The one I have now is the same barrel size as my rigs, so if you don't know (and I'm sure you do), it's definitely not big enough for my tweezers.

Have you tried using a less compact cotton ball? I find that when filtering it isnt necessary to use an overly tight cotton ball to achieve proper filtration.

Yep, here's a general update:

It took quite a few attempts at the prep-work to get the proper technique down (e.g. putting your finger over the syringe hole so the liquid doesn't leak, as well as finding the proper size/solidity of cotton needed for my particular syringe) I hit five tabs (not all hydrmorphone, remember I was on my way to the pharmacy ), though used WAAAY too much water (five fucking shots, I'll never do that again). I did get it down though, now the only equipment I'm missing is micron filters. Are they all that expensive, about $80 per 50 0.2 filters? That's pretty steep. Why so much?

If my neighbor says ONE MORE TIME that I'm 'ruining my life' without even giving me the respect ANYONE deserves, and have the decency, to SAY IT TO ME and NOT vocalize it while s'he's outside or going down the stairs of our separate apartments, I will flip shit! She has no idea of the IV use (that's always been the one thing I truly hide and lie about to everyone that knows me but the most trusted of family), she just knows I used to sniff dexmethylphenidate and pain killers. I only ask two things:

1. Again, the respect and decency!
2. Try to have some EVIDENCE of me 'ruining my life' because at this specific point in time my life is the absolute best it has ever been (and that is entirely excluding my current state).
