I'm just curious if anyone else hears things in white noise. For instance, if I have a fan on, I usually hear what sounds like a rock radio station turned down low or like it is coming from someone else's house. The other thing I hear is people arguing. It's the same far off sound, more of a tone and not clear words. These are the only things I hear and it's been like this forever. Not drug related. Anyone else have this happen?

Interesting. I think that would drive me crazy, hearing that all the time. At least I can control when I hear stuff. I just have to turn off whatever is making the white noise.

No because it was really really deep and hypnotic. Very long low drawn out pulse. Kind of like deep long lighthouse horn. But there is no ocean shoreline here. Or more like a base sound and kind of cool.

Like a long deep asmer. Not loud or annoying at all. Just intriguing and hypnotizing to listen too. A nice lull to fall asleep too.

It's been gone for years now. I try to catch it every once in a while. And like right now.

It's gone though. It's okay though. It was a bit Eerie anyway !!

I don't know too much about white noise.

We had noise makers at work though. I forgot what they were called. A noise barrier to muffle the sound and talking that was place on the floor outside of the door for security and confidentiality. For privacy outside the closed doors so no one can listen in on conversation.

HIPPA and confidentiality like for that. I guess that is what it would be like as for white noise. So that would be quite too loud for me. Not too bad, but annoying enough.

I liked the Hum but it just threw me off guard. I couldn't really hear it until I was quiet and still and listened for it though. It was everywhere. It's real. <3I would hear it at home and then all the way at work too. Which was quite a distance away.

It was very loud and really noticeable at night definitely.

One thing for sure though, the Hum is intense.

Yeah these babies would go to work. They would wind up and get louder the longer they stayed on.

They did the job and did it well !!!!

Every door should have one. ;);)

I hear all sorts of things in white noise. One time I heard two little people arguing in my living room. Like you said, I can never make out the words or meanings, but I can tell what's happening. It was really disconcerting at first, then intriguing, and now I just find it a bit annoying.

Yeah I read about the hum. It's odd that you can hear it, others can hear it, but nothing turned up during the testing and research they did.

A lot of places use those types of machines for privacy. They're very common in mental healthcare centers, therapy centers, Drs offices, etc. some people like them for falling asleep. I had one friend that would play the static between stations.

I agree. It will sometimes kick in a little fight or flight for me depending on the intensity. Even without hearing words, the tone can definitely get to me. I do not do well in confrontations or physical attacks. I'm usually left shaking like a leaf, even if I'm not directly involved.

i don't hear voices but my brain sometimes fills in white noise with music

i guess similar to how closed eye visuals work but for the ears, the brain fills in chaotic noise with sights or sounds that aren't chaotic.

I used to hear the Taos Hum all of the time. Constantly. But it has been quiet for a long time now. Really.

But just that's it. Only.

i've heard of something like that before, eventually people figured out it was caused by a steel furnace

maybe Taos Hum is caused by the noise from mole people orgies deep underground

they exist

Remember the 'old white noise' when tv transmission was stopped then came the test image [at strart and ending of the days transmission]. Which was a real cool round colored ball. Striped with all colors, black and white. If that dissapeared then there was just static, white noise. 1-st via a antenna on the roof. If it was stiil on there when we got cable?

Some of these dots appeared to be visual remains off the big bang, they discovered, projected as some white and black dots on your screen. With that typical sound.

Sad as that also ment no more television pirates, playing cool movies when LOPIK [the monumental transmitter tower was down taken over by digital.].
The building after got good use, free tekno parties where given there. Till squatting was illegalized, sad but another story.

Ventilators, or rain machines sometimes tv works like white noise. Tropical rain CD/ or noise making machine is closest to the old cable tv white noise imo.

Totally. TV shut down around 1:00AM and went from those colored bars to static. That may have stopped once we hit the 1980's though.

I always just considered white noise a noise that someone can listen to that reminds them that they are not paying attention to the other noise they are trying to get away from.

Its maybe both, the old static on tv. Actually the remains of the big bang visualized, no clue if that sound also had to to with that moment. If the visual and the noise where connected?
But it is one sort of white noise for sure, not my favorit.

Like rain or waves are, it sounded more like a tropical rainfall. Well actually the same.

I just read this article. Apparently it's a very real thing to hear music, voices, etc in white noise. It's all stuff I've never heard of before but it's an interesting read.
