That seems like a short withdrawal. I remember having really bad withdrawal switching from Klonopin to Valium. It was very intense for Two weeks and then I adjusted to being on it after about two months. When I mean intense I mean coming down from 8+mg's a day to 20mg's of valium
By the time I tapered off valium the withdrawal was there but manageable, way more mild then the transition from high doses of klonopin to low amounts of valium. The PAWS are really what you need to worry about. The actual physical withdrawal from Benzodiazapines is a rough one though that's for sure.
I just never could put a time frame on it. It's more pain, followed by more problems, then different problems, then the first signs of improvement. That's the best stage, this is when positive energy pays off. You got to look ahead to the future an leave all the crap behind. Remind your self that your stronger then the drug and never want it gain.
The feeling of not being dependent anymore and being free is amazing. At one point after months off benzos the feeling of "feeling good" kept building as time went on. It took me a good 12-18 months to really feel back to normal. I noticed each month new things like my memory returning and cognitive abilities. Little things that I didn't know were being severely impacted by my addiction. I feel that the transition off of a multi year benzo habbit takes a couple years to recover from and it's something that will never be forgotten. But I did find that my body eventually ended up recovering and my feelings and emotions went back to normal.
All those problems can be avoided by just taking benzos once in awhile when your feeling anxious or cant sleep. I was just another person looking for a little relief. It's a
slippery slope when you have anxiety and insomnia and the answer is a pill bottle sitting in your dresser door.
There are other solutions to anxiety and Insomnia such as exercise, healthy diet, and hobbies! I know none of these get rid of the problem 100% but every little bit counts, the most important part is remaining positive.
What it really comes down to though is the frequency of your use and dosage. The best way to use benzos is when needed. I was able to take Xanax for a couple years and never actually got physically addicted to it. It wasn't until I got my own script for Klonopin and intentionally took it daily that I became dependent.
Benzo's are a drug that should be used at the lowest doses possible when needed. Trust me I know how much they help with anxiety and Insomnia. Being dependent on them is not something you want to take lightly. It might even feel like you found the cure to your problem. You can take a pill and it will get rid of all your problems and make you feel good.
But that's just in the beginning. That's why it's best to keep dosing sporadic. Once you build up to taking it everyday your tolerance goes up, the good effects go away, and the magic is gone. The effects can even become paradoxical at times which can cause bad decisions and aggressive behavior.
