Hey there!

I teamed up with 2 other guys and we have money for the next couple of months and plan to build a video game about being a native medicine man in South America who gathers resources and makes new drugs. I dont want to talk too much about it to shape your ideas so would just love to hear some stuff you would like to see in this game.

I have some experiences with LSD, peyote, DMT, mushrooms and salvia so we will build on this but my other two team members aren't into this at all so some creative input from you would be really appreciated.

(Just found the psychedelic forum and posted there. Sorry, if double posting like this sucks feel free to delete this here)

This is just my opinion but this doesn't sound like a very interesting idea for a full game. I'm not sure how you would put a plot together based around this.

I agree. I'm sorry but to me, this also does not sound very exciting or interesting for a video game. When I was into psychedelic drugs I would rather have just taken LSD, mushrooms, or used cannabis instead of playing a computer or video game about taking drugs. Just my opinion.

I assume you plan on making a small-scale/budget game. And I think it sounds like a cool project. How much experience do you have with developing games?

I think it could be a good way to gain experience; if you wanna make the game, then make it. It's a personal project and that's cool, who cares if not many others can appreciate it. Maybe you can add a few more elements to attract more attention, if you want. Perhaps make the character a dealer of sorts (just an idea), or just expand on your already existing ideas.

As far as what I would like to see in terms of psychedelic use in a video game, I can't think of many things to be honest; this is where you can get creative, as it is your project. Obviously, you should make every simulated trip different. Good luck!

If you want to make this work I suggest you get very creative and original, I don't think we will be able to help you much with that. It should be more then some cheesy drug dealing game or just random hallucinations.

^ I do agree with that. Creating something like this means tapping into your imagination.

I would personally take this in a direction that would emulate a psychedelic experience than the shaman idea you mentioned. Could be a sort of exploration-based puzzle platformer art game like Antichamber.

i love video games and i love psy hedelics this is just sounding ridicul9us however.

is it gonna be like a monster rancher game except with made up ayahuasca soups instead of creatures?

what would the endgame type rewards be? a milkdrop inspired visualization accompanied with some shplonglesque track?

seems more of an interesting VR endeavor, on its own merits as a straiht regular vidya game i think id rather just take drugs and play the games i have

A mini-game where you are stuck in a prison of your mind's own design and must dial your friend to pick you up, except your cell phone's number pad is nothing but "Prince Symbols" or a hidden bonus level, accessible only through Game Shark technology in which you parallel park the car from Robin Williams' 90's classic "Flubber".

Drop into the jungle. Fight some primative dudes. Steal their plants. Go to your base, make some drug that gives you more health/strength/superpowervision/etc, and now you have some defend mode to repel attackers to your base.

The subsequent levels would be
*attack
*collect resources
*make drugs to upgrade
*attack/defend round
*repeat*

suddenly i am reminded of that old ganja farmer game where you were on the top of a VW van with a 50 cal shooting at the gov't dropping paratroopers on your crops lol. that was around the time of GTA I when shareware was big.

anyway, i think an RPG would be a cool idea, then the shaman's drugs could act as special items that, when used, make it possible to solve some of the puzzles that wouldn't have been possible without it. it's sort of Zeldaesque, but the drugs angle is I guess more similar to Bart's Nightmare, an old SNES game where Bart flips between skateboarding to mini-games where all kinds of trippy shit unfolds

I thought about making a game about drugs before, but I was too lazy to make something professional enough that it would be worth it.

I think the idea of the main character being given subtle clues about something through the drugs that he makes would be interesting. Like maybe it could play with the idea of oneness. He looses someone close to him and he is given clues to their existence through the drugs and then he eventually merges/becomes them or finds them in another dimension. idk maybe that would be boring, but there needs to be more deep games out there.
