make sure you're getting your kratom from a reputable source. there is a forum out there, i'm sure i'm not allowed to mention it by name, that is full of kratomophiles, and one of the sub forums is for vendor ratings. see if you can sniff that forum out. before I found it, I was ordering my kratom from a bunk source and it did nothing for me. keep in mind you have to register for said board before you can even read the posts, which makes lurking impossible. also, while on this board, be sure if you post to use their lingo-they are all about keeping kratom legal, and since it is not intended to be ingested by humans, they use terms such as "incense" and "putting kratom on the burner."
once you get to the forum, you will find a whole bunch of great vendors with great selections. furthermore, they often throw in numerous samples with your orders, so you can try out various different types to find which works best for you.
as for making the tea, my method was to put about 2 teaspoons (i used regular leaf, either bali for relaxation or thai ma daeng for energy, not extracts-much better bang for the buck, in my book) in a teacup, bring some water to a gentle boil, pour about 3 ounces of the boiling water over it, mix thoroughly, then fill to the top with lukewarm water. it's easier to slug back a colder mix then it is with boiling water.
as N.T mentioned, if you dose too much, nausea can become an issue, as can something many refer to as "wobbly eyes," where you can't seem to focus on any one thing. also, many swear by the "less is more" mantra with kratom, as it supposedly contains both opiod agonists AND antogonists, kind of like bupe, so there may be a ceiling effect on it.
