I want to purchase some micron filters to make a clear, sterile solution from hydromorphone pills. The problem is there are so many types of micron filters and I don't know which to get. There are many different types of membranes, does it matter which I get. Since I'm obviously filtering something water soluble, I am concerned that if I get the wrong type of filter, the hydromorphone might be retained in the filter and not come out in my solution. Any advice?

Yep. Have you made this type of product before? Im assuming since you ask you must not have but kudos on doing things the right way. If your going to shoot pills theres only one safe way to do it and its with the wheel filter. Heres a few more considerations for you to ensure you get as close to pharmaceutical grade product as possible.

First, your going to need a few more supplies past wheel filters. Dont worry because whatever website sells the filter will sell the other items as well and all of them except the crimper are cheap as hell. I learned this tech from back in the day making steroids and dilaudid is the first thing I bottled besides testosterone. Filtering your product doesnt do anything at all sterile wise if you dont properly bottle the resultant product in bacteriostatic water in a sealed vial. Luckily for $12 you can purchase a liter of benzyl alcohol which is what is used to make bacteriostatic water. One liter will last the rest of your life. For proper bottling you need the following:

1. Vials--Dont bother with sterile vials. You have to have them open at some points in the process anyway to do it right so buy the open top vials and plan on heating them to get them sterile. Borascillate glass is what youre looking for as they can withstand way more heat than you'll be needing to apply and 99% of the vials available are this type. Depending on what quantity your trying to make you need two sizes....the finished product size and the larger size you will soak your hydromorphone in. Determine what strength you want your resultant product to be and act accordingly. My suggestion unless you have a massive tolerance is 10cc vials for the finished product and anywhere from 20cc to 50cc vials for soaking depending on how strong your trying to make it. For a 10cc vial of hydromorphone at 16mg/ml you'll need 40 pills 4mg each and will need the 50cc vial. 8mg/ml = 20 pills and can be soaked in a 30cc vial. 4mg/ml = 10 pills and will work in a 20cc vial. You can buy vials individually from $0.20 each for 10cc up to $1.50 for 50cc. Best to buy a couple extra while your at it. Can buy packs of 100 at a time if your that into it.
2. Benzyl Alcohol--Will be used to create bacteriostatic water which is what keeps your solution sterile. Even in a sealed vial you dont want plain water. bacteriostatic water will preserve the life of the compound and allow safe usage up to 5 years after bottling (though the drug itself may degrade by then)
3. Butyl stoppers--the rubber stoppers that seal a vial. Cost about $4.00 for 50 of them
4. Caps--Make sure they match the size of your vials. Sizes are 13 and 20 with 20 being most useful. Cost $0.35 each or in packs of 10 for $2.75 or so
5. Crimper--This is the real investment. Its what crimps the cap onto the butyl stopper making the seal tight keeping your precious concoction safe for use. A good one cost about $75 -$100. Go to ebay and you'll find tons of ppl who have no further use for their at a bargain price
6. Filters--Do some research here. There are many types out there but a simple web search will explain the differences in them and which are best suited for particular applications. Im not going to specify any one as several will fit the bill but look for "sterile" and "water based solutions". If you cant find a finite answer look up water based Winstrol (a steroid) manufacture and use the filter they suggest. Dont worry about it getting your hydromorphone stuck in the filter. The solution should be 100% free of any particulate whatsoever and you'll be purging the filter at the end to make sure no goods are wasted.
7. 3cc 1" 28 guage syringe. Will need 2. Can buy singles or a box of 100 for $20
8. Insulin syringes for actual use of product....same as above as far as singles or boxes

Process:
1. Crush up pills as finely as possible. Determine how much you plan on making. For a 10cc vial you obviously want 10cc of finished product. The number of pills per the 10cc determines the strength in mg/ml. Part of the water you soak your pills in will be absorbed by the pill membrane, fillers etc. so you have to add more than 10cc of water to get 10cc of product. A good rule of thumb is to use 11cc water for 10 pills (4mg/ml final product) and add an additional 1cc water for every additional 10 pills. So if your making 16mg/ml you need 40 pills which corresponds to 14cc of water. In a clean glass cup thats been sterilized with rubbing alcohol and allowed to evap dry add about three times the water you feel you'll need and microwave it until it boils. Then place the soaking vial (larger one) in the microwave for approximately 10 seconds.
2. Use the sterile 3cc syringe to draw the appropriate amount of water needed as determined in step one from the previously boiling water and put half of it into the soaking vial (if using 11cc total put 5.5 in now). Add 0.1ml benzyl alcohol. Add crushed pill powder. Add remaining half of previously boiling water. You should now have the soaking vial filled with the appropriate amount of water to pill ratio along with the small amount of benzyl alcohol. Place a butyl stopper on top, cap with cap and seal with crimper. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds. Place in dark spot at room temp and leave alone for 24 hours.
3. All powder should now have dissolved or sunk to bottom. Hydromorphone is highly water soluable and is located in the water layer.
4. Take your finished product container and sterilize using microwave as before for 30 seconds. Install butyl stopper, cap and but dont yet crimp. Take syringe off barrel of 3cc syringe and install it vertically off to the side through the butyl stopper. This will act as a vent allowing pressure from the hydromorphone solution your about to bottle to enter the vial without forcing the butyl stopper from trying to lift up.
5. Take the soaking solution and carefully draw up the water while not disturbing the layer of gook on the bottom. Once you have 3 cc in the barrell, detatch the syringe and attach the wheel filter between the barrel and syringe. Insert syringe into the butyl stopper of the finished product container and depress the plunger. IMPORTANT: TAKE NOTE OF HOW MANY CC OF SOLUTION RUNS THROUGH THE WHEEL FILTER BEFORE THE FIRST DROP PASSES THROUGH AND DROPS INTO THE VIAL. The filter itself holds a certain amount of fluid in it. While your goal is to filter out any solid particulates the goal is also to get all the hydromorphone solution out of the filter and into the vial. Write down how many CC passed through before the first drop hit the bottom of the vial. This is what we will use to determine how much to purge.
6. Repeat as necessary until all the hydromorphone solution is drawn up from the soaking vial. Do not bother trying to soak up any of the water thats innundated with the goop at the bottom. You can plug this later to ensure no waste by in my experience 95% or more of the hydromorphone is in the solution and its not worth clogging the filter to get the last tiny bit out.
7. Now the soaking vial is empty and the filter is still full of hydromorphone solution. Go back to where you wrote down how many CC passed through the filter before the first drop hit the bottom of the vial. Draw up the same number of CC of boiled (as we did originally to keep sterile) water and push it through the filter into the vial just like you've been doing with the hydromorphone solution. This pushes the hydromorphone solution thats in the filter out and "purges" it so all the valuable hydromorphone solution makes it into the collection vial and none is wasted by leaving in the filter.
8. Remove the vent
9. Cap and crimp
10. Label your vial with the contents and strength. You'd be surprised how often this step is missed and how dire the consequenses can be from such a silly oversight.

You now have as close to pharmaceutical grade hydromorphone sterile solution as you can get outside the pharm world. If your REALLY paranoid you can filter twice though the filters are made to do their job and will not let you down should you use them properly and use the proper one.

Through simple variations you can do the same for other pharm products though dilaudid and opana are the two that are most easily converted this way. Once you get the hang of it you can experiement with combinations. My favorite is "bliss" which is a combination of hydromorphone, oxymorphone, promethazine and heroin though Ill let you concoct your own recipies to your own taste. This is absolutely the best way to get the most bang for your buck out of pills and is the only safe way to inject them.

Good luck and when you search bypass google and go to dogpile.com. You'll get a ton more relevant info there as they havent given in to govt pressure to self censor like google.

I realize I didnt answer your direct question but the filter alone is one of the less important parts to getting a sterile solution. Your concern you may get the hydromorphone stuck in the filter led me to believe you need to do some more research on the topic before moving forward. Dont worry. In two hours time you can find all the materials needed as well as the answer to your filter question though you have it backward....your more interested in which filter will ALLOW hydromorphone to get through the filter....not stuck in the filter. Do a little research and you'll soon be on your way to sterile, ready made solutions of superb opiates in easily measurable doses. This is harm reduction my freind!

Edit: meant to say your more concerned with getting the filter that ALLOWS the hydromrphone "solution" through the filter....any hydro particles are SUPPOSED to get stuck in the filter. Thats the point of the filter....getting the solution through free of any particulates. You WANT any hydro powder (goop at this point) to be stuck in the filter.
