Thats right..what do you guys think the next step in human evolution is?

I personally think with all these problems modern man is facing, he will evolve into a more spiritually open being, and that we will be more in touch with the parts in our brain that we do not use (all those parts we dont use are there for a reason!)

I'd like to think that humanity will see its next step in evolution, and not clusterfuck itself in nuclear war, mass extinction, etc.

Technology is the future of human evolution, as it always has been. What new technology comes it will shape our society and how we live. As far a mass extinction, I really don't believe in such a thing. If a thing were to such occur i believe life would find some way to start all over again. Knowledge is infinite and the mind is where it lies. The mystery of the unknown lies in the unconscious state of mind, don't be afraid to explore it.

I believe humanity to most likely be the apex of natural selection

i think extinction is probably the next course... however, if it isn't, then i'm not sure.

I think alot of people consider the possibility of extinction because it is only through death that genuine transformation takes form; we may wipe out a majority of our population as we clench tightly to the only world we've ever known in resistance to change.. but those who resist will be torn away and those who surrender, embraced.

The move from a capitalist society to a social society has been becoming evermore apparent as time goes by, i feel the final stages of this process will be the darkest as we are forced to evolve or die.

Or Idiocracy :D

next step in evolution is homo derpsiens nolifesiens

it will adapt to constanst siting in front of PC.Legs will disapear, why would anybody needs something like legs if you can use car??? people will go to sleep in their levitating moduls and fuck in them too.Every body hair will disapear, maybe two new hands will evolve so you can fap and eat while playing FPS games.People will be born with natural instincsts about using facebook and youtube

Evolution theory is the biological process of natural selection. Thanks to medical science and the social revolution, everyone is assured the chance to procreate before they succumbed to illness and death. Therefore, the evolution train has stopped on it's track. If not given for a future natural disaster of biblical proportions or sudden dwindling of natural resources, it's safe to say that Homo-Sapiens have ceased to evolve entirely.

The only changes that threaten to disturb this utopian earth of ours are the artificial advances we create ourselves. That's right. Cancer treatment, stem cell research and life elongation study are the upcoming disasters we are inducing upon future generations. In thirty years, nearly all new born babies in developed countries will live for over a century. Just imagine it. A century ago there were nearly 2 billion people on this planet. Now there are 7 billion of us, and in another century there could be as much as 15 billion people here. freaky, eh?

The day when we will all have to savagely fight over land and food is nearing. In terms of social systems, we will be back to primal times. It's gonna be like that zombies movie, only the survivors will be the ones with military means. Could actually make a good sci-fi pitch, so forget I said anything.

a worldwide ayahuasca binge would without a doubt help human (/animal?) consciousness' evolution leap forwards

We use every part of our brain.. the whole 10% thing is a myth..

Human evolution would involve growing bigger brains.. that's it.. but with the emergence of techonology we wouldn't even evolve as natural selection has no place in modern worlds..

genetic evolution (in a *dawinian* sense) no longer applies - physically weaker humans, and humans with illness, still pass on their genes.

but our mental / social evolution has progressed, now to the point where we are able to manipulate our DNA and continue our genetic evolution.

we will soon face ethical questions about how far we should go in terms of... eliminating diseases and health issues in your developing child (by DNA manipulation as an embryo), making the next generation beautiful and more intelligent, etc.

I remember seeing a documentary about this. Supposedly we are already physically evolving. The discovery comes from misshapen kids teeth oddly enough. There is a bone in the base of the skull that is moving down to incorporate a larger brain size. So we'll eventually have irregularly large skulls and fucked up teeth.

thanks, that was very intersting documentary :)

There's some talk in the medical community that in the future, human women will largely lose the ability to vaginally deliver a baby, and C-sections will become the only way. We just select for brains (and therefore heads) that are bigger than the female pelvic inlets we select for.

I disagree entirely that people have stopped evolving. Evolution is just change on a large group scale, and as long as factors in our environment (including our own population size and living circumstances) continue to change, the traits we select for and manifest will continue to change.

of course. i highlighted darwinian for a reason, we won't be seeing normal evolution (which tends to be aided by mass death) unless 2012 happens.

either way, if we want to continue evolving as in "significantly improving*" our genome in terms of health etc, it will be up to us to direct consciously.

* rather than in some cases decreasing, and in other cases slightly increasing, fitness.

I think that cybernetics involving the integration of wireless devices and networks with the human body and mind is the next step in human evolution.

Something akin to artificial intelligence may develop concurrently or soon after.

integrating technology and humans making us infinite.

i read a times article the other day that said this guy predicted that if you can make it to 2045, then youll be infinite compared to how long we live now.

like we replace organs with software and basically become computers.

by 2045 we may be growing new organs and limbs in test tubes so that we don't die, and reversing the aging process... but uploading "ourselves" "as patterns" "into software" is quite far away. we'd need to address some philosophical questions that seem totally unanswerable... like how consciousness is produced/maintained.

haha that reminds me of brave new world.

we all ready have manufactored limbs and such.
technology progresses exponentially which is faster than some people might think.

a very large percentage of america has plastic surgury or some type of body modification

people consume chemicals that enhance their cognitive abilities and physical performance.

integrating robotics and chemicals seems to be next, and maybe progress to where we can alter our moods however we want. without any physical harm done.

too those new nootropics are getting close
i keep seeing new mood enhancer drinks popping up

studies of slowing down cell division are progressing also
cells dont divide as fast when they are colder.

Yep that's also how I feel.

Artificial Intelligence combined with our own DNA structure to create a neo-human.

But of course this isn't a natural evolution.

I believe our natural evolution would consist of a shift in consciousness from this material world to a more mutable, abstract, energy world which already exist but is not currently inhabited by most human consciousness.

A.k.a. Ascension

^ do we consciously direct that ascension?

if so, is it "natural evolution"?

i agree, btw, about ascension.
