What happens when labeled a drug seeker at an ER?

I have been in and out of the ER four times in the last month for flank pain on my right side. I was recently told it was due to kidney stones in the last week and was treated with IV pain meds and fluids. I was told that if my pain didn't get any better in a few days I should return to the emergency room for further treatment. Tonight I was unable to get relief and decided to go in to see if I was passing the stone. Among arrival I was sent to the labor and delivery floor since I am 26 weeks pregnant. The OBGYN on call for the night told me that she couldn't see a stone on the ultra sound of my kidney and gave me two Tylenol and sent me on my way. Unhappy with my treatment and doubled over in pain I decided to head to the hospital across town and get a second opinion on my kidney stone. As soon as I was seated in a room the nurse started asking my symptoms. As I was describing them to her the Emergency room doctor for the night came in and asked me if I had recently been seen at the other hospital, I had told him I had and that I was unhappy with my treatment and still in a lot of pain. In the middle of explaining what had happened he cut me off and told me he believed I was "Drug seeking" because I have been in and out of the hospital four times in the last month. I was confused as to what drug seeking was, I had never heard that term used before. I asked him what he meant and he told me he believed I was after narcotics and he was going to advise any physician in the hospital to no longer prescribe them to me from here on out. Unable to speak I just stared at him in disbelief to the way I was being treated. i am still not 100 percent sure what being labeled drug seeking means, is my name going to be logged into some kind of data base or am I red flagged in all the hospitals? If I ever need to go to the Emergency room will I not be able to be seen or treated for any kind of pain? Please someone who is more familiar with the term or knows what will happen help me so I can know what to expect next time I visit an ER room.

Thank you

it means you won't get scripted any narcotic medications. Unless you need surgery or have a bad injury .. they've noted this in your chart so all the providers at that hospital can see.

^^ thank you, will just all providers at that hospital see it or will every doctor and every hospital everywhere see this? I have an appointment with my obgyn in a couple of days and it would be embarrassing for her to ask me about this infront of my two oldest kids.

all providors at that hospital will most likely see. not every dr. in every hospital.

I think only the hospital would be able to see it unless when you filled out your paperwork, you listed any other doctors, like your GP or maybe your OB/GYN. Usually they do ask for your GP's name (probably not your OB/GYN) so they can update them on your care. Do you remember doing this?

I don't have a primary doctor only and obgyn and she isn't on the list when i filled out any paperwork. She didn't say anything to me about it so that is good. however I worried that since the hospital that's ER doctor said they would no longer give me narcotics could see that I was at the other hospital earlier that day will him suggesting i not be given pain medication be seen at the other hospital as well since they can share files? I dont know too much about hospitals this is the first time that I've been to one since my youngest child was born. Do they share some kind of system with each other, or are my medical records just accessible to any doctor in any hospital? I'm concerned if i ever need to be seen and I go to the other hospital that I will be put through hassle and wont get the proper treatment I need.
