Jabberwocky
Frumious Bandersnatch
I was 9 beers deep
The phone jumped
It's the Sister, unusually
"Did you hear?
There's no more gas in town."
I cackled, almost choking,
Trying not to spill,
On my 10th beer
We haven't spoke in months
"No, really" she insisted
Was she talking to me?
Or the more credible empty room around me?
I didn't know and
Soon enough the disgusting
actualities of it all
were slapping me
Like a newborn,
The doctor looking down
Curious and attentive
Checking if I was alive
If I was ever
alive
I had no food,
No dignity,
I had a few beers left
Yet apparently
No gas.
The hyenas were circling me
I had a panic attack,
I had a momentary lapse in
Sanity
But not today's filling of horror
"Do you know what happened to Johnny's liquor?"
I got into the car
I raced to the gas station
There was no gas
Like she told me
I pissed my pants and
Cried
Screamed
And wondered about how much drugs
I had left
Now both me
and the car
Are screaming
Back to apparent safety
The TV absorbed me
and it seemed better than this
Better than upper case thoughts
"What happened to Johnny's liquor,
You were the last to see it?"
I've never asked about their
souls
Maybe I should.
Its not the most appropriate
Conversation
"Are you still there??"
"Do you know where johnny's liquor is?"
I Hung up the phone
Which is always
Apparently
The best option
