What drugs would survive total legalization?

If all drugs were legal, pure, and widely available, what would actually be popular long term? When you take away the factors of legal risk, undeserved reputation, misinformation, etc, what do people keep in their stash? What RCs would stand against the classics? What classics would fall out of favor? What obscure drugs would make a comeback? What safer but rarer drugs would replace more dangerous drugs?

Personally I think amphetamines have real staying power. They're incredibly functional drugs IMO. And I doubt that many people would choose any of the stuff that's come out of the RC market over the classics ("classics" being dextroamphetamine and methamphetamine), but maybe I'm wrong.

Opiates would definitely be up there on the list. Probably opium/herin, morphine, and the hydro and oxy compounds of course.

I've heard several people say they'd pick mephedrone over coke, meth, or amps. But that opinion could be colored by the low quality or cuts of street drugs.

I've never done mephedrone, but it sounds pretty fun.

My understanding was that it was mostly popular in the UK, which has pretty limited options as far as speed goes, though.

Me and my friend had a similar discussion the other day. So based on the documentary 'What in my Baggie?" featuring Hamilton Morris, most "Molly" they tested at music festivals around the US and UK was actually some sort of RC. Actually, most drugs that were supposed to be some sort of "pure" classics were actually RC and most people didn't even know, they simply trusted the dealer. RC are usually cheaper and easier to get then the 'real stuff. My theory is that there is a whole generation of people that have never had the classics, they don't even know it and have always been taking RC. Because of this if all drugs were legalized some people might actually not prefer the classics and maybe they would not be as popular as one might think.

IMO I think Adderall would get up there with marijuana, in comparison to popularity. It gets you up, and getting things done is so much more fun while on the stuff.

I don't think opiates would gain a bunch of popularity, only because of how addicting they are (believe me I know)

As for the other, more powerful stims... I think people would rather pop a pill than have to snort or smoke the goodies. Fucks up your nose, lungs, and teeth when it comes to long term use.

What stims are you talking about? Methamphetamine already exists in pill form, and I'm sure with funding any drug can be made into a pill. THC has horrendous bioavailability by itself but that doesn't stop us from eating it and getting high with the right hacks.

I guess it depends on the "target audience"-experienced/older users/junkies would prolly stick to opiates&benzos, while young, more "clean cut" guys would be doing amphetamines during the week and rolling mollies on weekends..

Stimulants, opiates, and psychedelics, in that order.

The reason being that most of the working population is already on stimulants so they'd just up their ante.

Opiates basically. Everyone needs them obviously.
Reason for which hospitals need them more than any other drugs imo.

I think MXE and AL-LAD would still see use because variety is important, and vendors cater to consumer preferences.

They’re both analogues which doesn’t mean that their effects are better or worse than the drug their derived from, but if you could purchase Ketamine or LSD would you purchase MXE or AL-LAD?

AL-LAD lasts half as long, which is a huge positive sometimes. It's got a clearer headspace, which can also be a positive in some circumstances. It's an analogue, but I don't agree that means it's equivalent in any way. It's a unique drug with its own character. I'd certainly want some in my stash.
