I am getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed soon. They told me they will be giving me IV sedation to knock me out. Anyone know what drugs they use to knock you out with. I've googled it and can't seem to find the info I'm looking for. I'm only wondering because I currently use a lot of etizolam (obviously not prescribed) and I have been addicted to heroin in the past so I have a high natural tolerance now for opiates as well. So I'm wondering if this is going to work out. Thanks for any help offered.

Versed (Midazolam) Fentanyl, Ketamine, Diprivan are commonly used.

Don't worry. It will work. IV Versed combined with Fent is a great way to get the room spinning like a black-out inducing tornado.

Make sure you tell them about your benzo usage.

I was just given IV meperidine (demerol) (albeit 3x the dose he normally used on patients my weight). Thankfully he factored this in when I called back saying the 60mg of vicodin/day wasn't covering my pain at all, and he wrote me a script of 60mg of percocet/day.

Thanks for the insight guys. I also forgot to mention that I have a tolerance to dissociate drugs too. I use methoxetmine quite frequently. I'm kind of afraid to mention all this to my dentist though. He probably doesn't even know what methoxetamine or etizolam is. Also I drink daily which has a cross tolerance with benzos.

I guess I just don't trust medical professionals. I've had some bad experiences with them in the past which I don't feel like getting into right now. So generally I try to keep as much info away from them as possible and just appear to be a "normal person".

well, he'd probably be able to tell what etizolam is just from the name. Methoxetamine, perhaps not, as there are many different amines that affect people in many different ways.

it varies between clinic.

some use just iv midazolam (Versed). some use e.g. midazolam plus fentanyl. some use nitrous oxide.
I don't think ketamine is used - it is seemingly restricted to emergency/veterinary medicine, & other niche uses.

either way, if you are tolerant to benzos it is best to tell your dentist... ideally then the anesthetist won't have to figure that out when you're still talking and thinking after the first dose. lol

I think I got Versed after laughing gas.

What harm is going to come from being honest with your doctor? You don't want to be awake during this surgery so you need to make sure you're going to be getting adequate medication.

Just wait and see at your appt with the anaesthesiologist before the operation. As is evident in the above posts there are a variety of ways to be put under.

Personally i was put under with fentanyl and midazolam (while already high on IV morphine though it was imperative for me to let them know this on the day of surgery)

for me I got versed (midazolam), fentanyl (at this point I passed out), ketamine, and then some propofol. my oral surgeon doesn't fuck around.

I shopped around a bit, had horrendous anxiety about it. one doc told me they would do it with just laughing gas, and if that didn't do the trick there would be nothing they could do, so I went and got a consult with a doc who specializes in anaesthesia. ask your doctor, make sure you are clear on what you will get for post op pain. I was on suboxone at the time and told him that he needed to reassure me I wouldn't be in pain afterwards. communication is key. I got 15mg oxycodone every few hours, but realized it was pointless and just got back on my suboxone the next morning.
