here is a photo from our mecke test of mdma powder - the results look more promising than the first time we did it but it is definitely not pure. there's some more substantial green/black specks and the rest of it turned a reddish brown which i guess means some 2 CT. any other thoughts would be appreciated though!

*fyi: the mdma came in a powder form which was sweet to the taste which is why we were suspicious. the first we tested, there wasn't a significant colour change.

we're hoping the dark green/blue specks are mdma, but the rest of it turned a slight reddish orange colour which mecke says is 2CT. not sure what the sweet taste is then!

i've attached a closer image in case the other one wasn't that great (the 1st one was after 5 seconds, and this more recent one was a few seconds later)

Lot's of things will react with Mecke and produce similar colors. Clarke s says a brown colored product indicates ephedrine, red-brown; propoxyphene HCl. There's a host of compounds for colors inbetween. Also, MDA and MDMA are not the only things that produces a green->blue colour, there's codeine, diacetylmorphine HCl (heroin), and hydrocodone tartrate. Oxycodone, mescaline and morphine are all reported to produce green colored reaction products.

This is why, if using reagents, tests should be done with as many reagents as possible.

ugh - that's not very reassuring but definitely good to know! i guess the only solace we have is that a friend had some from the same supply and didn't complain so hopefully there's nothing too nasty in there. what other reagent would you recommend alongside mecke?

All of the currently commercially available ones, 2 controls using nitric acid and sulfuric acid, frohdes reagent, chens reagent, ... (there are many) and a good reference or two such as Clarkes analysis of drugs and poisons, and an old Forensics paper titled Spot Tests-A Reference Chart For Forensic Chemists
