What are some of the things you do when your trying to stay clean and tryin to keep your mind from wandering to drug related subjects....?

like me, im on suboxone maintanence, but I still think about shooting heroin, but whenever I do...I watch a real badass movie too get my mind off of it, or sometimes i'll even masturbate;) and the rush of endorphins will satisyfy me for a while.

Id like to hear what other people do to help them stay clean(when they want/need to be) and help them not think about doing drugs.....cuz we all know how hard that is. Once you get used to the highs and lows of a drug users lifestyle....its hard to just drop it, and keep it out of your mind, as if you never experienced those mind blowing, dick raising, euphorical highs.

I've been taking PEA with Deprenyl and enjoy it so much that I can't even imagine a day without it. It all started with a low dose but as those of us with addictive personalities know, you always want more of a high...to feel good....

I'd love to hear suggestions from people who manage to stay "clean" - even if it's just for the weekend....

Thanks! ;)

well I am not really clean right now so I don't know!! When I was clean for a while I would play video games, read a good book, or hang out with my girl to get my mind off the good ol' shootin dope game

when i was trying to kick i was about 12 hours in waiting to take what little sub i had, so i checked out the movie times at the theater and there was three movies that i wanted to see, and they all started right after the other. So i got really stoned, took a bottle of xanax and sub with me, and watched movies all day while occasionally popping some pills.

Thats not really staying clean, but my biggest problem with kicking is just getting started, so i have to find some way to occupy myself and actually get on sub instead of just going to buy dope as soon as i feel like sneezing or i might maybe be kind of starting to sweat ohhhh nooo

1. Stop hanging out with old drug buddies.
2. Delete all dealers numbers off your phone.
3. Do things that keep you distracted.

pretty much! i spend all my time with people who would disown me if i started using again. after a while you just forget about the drugs :)

Has anybody ever actually joined some sort of organization(i.e. sports team, chess club, committee, etc) in order to ake there mind off of drugs???

yeah im starting welding classes so i can do that in the morning instead of sitting around thinking about how i used to always be out scoring a this time.

I know some people who now work in drug treatment and spend their time helping and supporting those who are trying to quit.

I stopped hanging out with the people I used with.
I take my maintenance religiously.
I don't look for it.

IME, staying clean is a process. It's usually drawn out and includes failure at several points in time. To get there you have to have a short term strategy and long term strategy.

By short term strategy, which is mostly used when you're fresh off, I mean things you do to hold cravings at bay. Pick up some hobbies, avoid situations where people are using, stay away from triggers, invest in your schoolwork/career, etc.

By long term strategy, I mean delving into exactly why you used, take count of exactly what damage it has caused, and figure out how to avoid that in the future. Obviously this is very difficult.

Some good advice right here....

I find it very hard to have days when i take a minimal amount of drugs as i am RX s methadone benzo's. But idon't let this stop me going for a nice ride on my pushbike or maybe atrip to the swimming pool. I have been on methadone and H 4 about 15 years but i do belive that exercise is agood way of breaking the cycle of the monatony of hard drugs. Don't let let being a user trick you into thinking that you can't do normal things ;)

Number 3 is exactly what im asking......what ARE the things you do to keep distracted. I allready know that distracting yourself is a way to help stay clean, thats why im asking what things people do to distract themselves....you see?

I honestly think to stay clean you have to really want it. Usually that happens because you feel to old and tired to continue in the game or your life just got so shitty that you can't handle the game anymore because the consequences just got too great.

You also need some kind of support in my opinion, whether it's twelve step programs or just hanging out with only sober friends or friends who support your recovery/sobriety and refuse to use around you. Staying away from "people, places, and things" is important and delete all dealer's numbers from your phone.

Honestly, it's extremely hard to get to the point of really wanting to stay clean long term in my opinion. I was clean for four years, in and out of Narcotics Anonymous. I had a two year relapse and moved onto much harder drugs during that time. Now it seems like anything I do isn't enough to remove that euphoria recall from my brain and replace it with some sort of consequence recall ability. Shit got really bad before I went to rehab in the beginning of the summer, but now that the dust has settled, so to speak, I keep relapsing. I get a couple days or a week and relapse, couple days relapse, a week, relapse, etc. It sucks man :\

take suboxone everyday
find new hobbies and things to do
i read a lot of books on the computer
go to na meetings and call clean friends everyday
look at street art and glass art, and other artsy things
