Im just curious, in the dark days before the internet and forums like Bluelight, where did people go to get information on all this regarding drugs? Was all the information just word of mouth? Were there certain books that people could buy? Just kind of curious because I dont know what I would do without this website/forum :?

I was GOING to say erowid, but realized that's just another website....

I think before the internet I just had this general idea "drugs are bad and make people do weird/bad things" and knew absolutely no specifics about them. thanks mom and dad. I think friends/acquaintances are otherwise the primary source.

I know there are a LOT of books about drugs! One specifically regarding addiction that I have been meaning to read, but forgot about until now, was published in the 1800s: Confessions of an English Opium-Eater, by Thomas DeQuincey. There are also a lot of books about hallucinogens and cultures that use them....time for a library trip!

Erowid.... or google... or just doing whatever with no harm reduction in mind... that shit caused me to have elevated liver enzymes with all the extra tylenol I was taking in the vics and lortabs.

Either moar drugs...or less drugs. Telegraphs.

Fidonet and BBSs, technically "before the internet". Magizines also provided a lot of information (not always correct) and readers could mail in tidbits.

Mostly just word of mouth though, the only differnce now is things spread faster and further.

Man I am getting too old.....love begin a member of the last generation to remember life before the internet. I fear for the kids coming up behind my generation. The idea of them running the country some day honestly scares the hell out of me.

/old fart at age 26 :)

You ever seen two teenage E-tards talking to each other? "Dude, snort some orange juice with your rolls, it'll make you trip balls." Or "man these rolls are real chill. That means they must have heroin in them, instead of the usual coke"

More or less that I assume

Are you going to take a trip to the library or trip at the library? Haha. And that actually sounds like and interesting read, as I am a heroin addict myself. Ill have to check it out thanks for bringing it up.

Before the Internet, people got their drug information from considerably more reliable sources, like their friendly local police department or D.A.R.E. class teacher.

^Lmao.

When I was homeless i used to spend all day at the library reading the books on drugs and falling asleep in the comfy chairs. Theres plenty of material on them and theyre fun to read, for me at least.

We did like everyone else, make friends who had connects. Meet up after school, though some of the best deals were actually at school. This was way before DARE, cellphones and internet. We did a lot of walking around trying to get hook-ups when we couldn't reach people on the house phone. Imagine going to rehab in the 70's before rehab was commonplace? I was put into a mental institution but they gave us weekend furloughs. I would go home and get high, return on Sunday with no urine drug tests (they didn't exist either) Thinking back, things weren't so bad. Only sometimes people would try to sell "homegrown" which back then was total crap.
