Help! What did I just take? Psilocybin or Amanita Muscaria?

Long story short: I've never used recreational drugs but have been looking towards psilocybin to address mental health issues which persist despite an adherence to talk therapy, antidepressants, and ketamine/Spravato therapy. In Detroit, psilocybin has recently been decriminalized. I went to a dispensary called ***vendors/sourcing not permitted on Bluelight*** and purchased an eighth of Penis Envy. When I got home I noticed the packaging was labeled "Albino Penis Envy (Amenita Muscaria)". Yes, they misspelled Amanita. Obviously, this cannot be both Penis Envy (which contains psilocybin) and Amanita Muscaria (which does not contain psilocybin). When Googling pics, the product I purchased looks like Penis Envy and not Amanita Muscaria.

Ultimately, I took half of what I purchased.

The experience: my goal was to have the "euphoric" experience often associated with psilocybin. This did not occur. It took about an hour for the effects to kick in. It started with a light buzz in my skin, which was fine. Separate from that, a mild discomfort and soreness developed, like I needed a massage. I was also unable to find a comfortable position to lay in. There were no hallucinogenic side effects, my vision was never altered. My logic/train of thought had some amount of confusion, kind of like when you are half-awake/half-asleep. When I would stand up I was a little wobbly on my feet. I was tired but couldn't fall asleep. This all lasted about 4-5 hours before the effects started to subside.

This whole thing is annoying for many reasons, but where I go from here on my mental health journey depends on whether what I took was in fact Penis Envy (psilocybin) or Amanita Muscaria (not psilocybin). I have considered the fact this was Penis Envy but labeled Amanita Muscaria for legal purposes.

Thoughts?

You'd know if it was Psilocybin because you'd be laughing your ass off. If you felt sleepy then I was probably amanita mushrooms. A lot of amanita mushrooms are bright red with white dots.

Unfortunately we can't identify substances here based on images or user experience reports. I would recommend you send a sample to a drug testing lab to see what it contains.

I will however say that the things you experienced may be felt on a low dose of psilocybin and iirc amanitas have a red cap, but I'm definitely not even close to a mushroom expert and sending to a lab or at least doing some reagent testing will give you better answers.

You can't always tell what kind of mushoom it is just by looking at it.

We can't answer "what did I take" questions on here, because truly only a lab can answer that.

What I can say is that whatever you took doesn't look at all like Amanita muscaria. I think you can rule that out. It does look like it could be a psilocybin-containing mushroom, but again, there's no way to know for sure.

Your experience is not inconsistent with a light-dose of a psilocybin-containing mushroom. Commentators tend to flatten the experiences they can give you out into a nice, simple, comprehensible idea of a mushroom trip. In practice, I think of mushrooms more as chaos agents. Stan Grof described psychedelics as non-specific amplifiers of the unconscious. Even the same dose of the same strain in the same body can be wildly different on different days.

I like your idea of setting an intention, but as with any psychedelic, in the end you have to be willing to accept whatever it gives you. I personally think that out of all psychedelics, psilocybin is the one most likely to have its own idea of where it wants to take you. Euphoria is definitely an option, but for me at least it's not a common one. Honestly, the second half of a mushroom trip for me is almost invariably murky and dysphoric, but it's also where I tend to get the most productive insights.

While many people enjoy low doses of psychedelics including psilocybin, finding them bubbly and fun, I tend to have experiences more consistent with what you described: muddled, off-base, weird, and not terribly enjoyable. Once I hit a common dose, the weirdness takes a backseat and the magic kicks in. Everybody is different. For my personal receptor morphology phenotype, psilocybin is an absolute gutter-tier psychedelic for recreational purposes, but possibly the best for challenging personal growth.

they're kinda small for PE's - but they could be - there's a few variations of them - and those are supposedly the albinos - so who knows

but yea you never know wtf mushrooms are gonna do to ya

im with @Pfafffed - im not a big fan of mushrooms and i love psychedelics - they might be my least favorite

While as you already know BL cannot be used for ID purposes. That said, the images shown look like your regular old psilocybin cubensis. Theyre not even APE though or the caps would be you know... white/albino.

Do you think it is wise to be purchasing such a product when the company is clearly mislabeling the product and then on top of it they misspell the main component (that's not even there.)

my first trip was also 1 g of cubensis, it was interesting but rather modest experience, but after that trips have been more giving and intense, particularly on higher doses. People sometimes have to sensitize to psychedelics a bit first. psilocybin shrooms are kinda, they work best on certain dose IMHO, but you can learn to enjoy lower doses too.

If you like weed, you could very carefully use small doses to open the trip up a bit, but without experience, I suggest toking before dosing shrooms or after you have peaked.

I feel a bit pissed off because of the vendors mistake, whatever the mistake was. That kinda confusion should not happen among professionals that deal with peoples medicines. Whatever you do, make sure you can trust whatever your source is.

I have dried a lot of amanita, and whatever there is in picture, is definitely not amanita muscaria.

Certainly not Amanita Muscaria

But it might be "Amenita Muscaria" 🤣

You cant trust these dudes selling this shit.

One on popular mushroom vendor website, their own lab results for one batch show high concentrations of muscarine, which is by far the most potent toxin in amanita muscaria (usually found moreso in other mushrooms). Less than 100mg of muscarine could be fatal if i recall correctly, and this shit has over 7mg/g of muscarine. Fuck these vendors.

Wait apparently muscarine may be lethal with as little as 40mg:

So must have been a. pantherina used or who knows, but whatever the case may be, their own lab results show a toxic amount of muscarine (which is far, far more toxic than ibotenic acid).

That looks like it might be 7mg in a serving of gummies, and a serving is the whole container

Meant to say 7mg/gummy, not per gram. Based on the bottom text it says: 1 Unit = Gummy, 3.4837g. 1 unit(s) per serving- 1 serving per container.

So that means they contain 7.3mg of muscarine per gummy (I've had variations of these amanita gummies and they are little gummy cubes that weigh around 3.5 grams each).

Thus only 7 gummies puts it in the lower end of the estimated human oral lethal range (over 40mg). While i don't think the human LD50 is 40mg, 40mg of muscarine will not be pleasant. Amanita muscaria, despite the name, should only contain trace amounts of muscarine, whereas the gummies being sold here are mostly muscarine. I believe amanita pantherina and other varieties of amanitas have higher quantities of muscarine than amanita muscaria, but even then, the quantity of muscarine should be fairly low, yet these contain a huge quantity of muscarine.

But instead of pulling the product, these idiots posted the test results and are selling the product. I guess they didn't read the results, didnt understand the results or didn't care. I guess buyers don't understand the results either.

This same vendor was selling pure "muscimol isolate" that was independently verified by two different purchasers to contain no muscimol but rather pregabalin. Here are the results from one of those cases: https://drugsdata.org/view.php?id=17152

The owner then went on reddit and tried to argue that synthetic muscimol and extracted muscimol are somehow chemically different, so that is why the drugsdata.org test did not detect muscimol. Which of course is complete nonsense. He also failed to explain why the product contained pregabalin.

These guys are top-shelf shitheads, and yet they are one of the biggest amanita and "legal psychedelic" mushroom vendors. They wholesale to many other shops as well.

*For harm reductions sake, I'll share the name. Do not buy from: https://amanitamushrooms.com/

They also operate another site called psilomart. That big shroom recall was probably a result of wholesale products sold by them. I have inadvertently bought some products of theirs that they wholesaled to another vendor. The negative effects of their products lead me to research the orginal source of the shit I bought (which I found to be amanitamushrooms.com). When looking through the labs they published on their own site, I found terrifying lab results. Additionally, other products of theirs are suspected to be laced with delta 8 and god knows what else. Obviously that company is fine with putting undisclosed ingredients in their products (like the pregabalin they added to their "muscimol isolate"), so who knows what else they'll put in their products. But perhaps more concerning is that muscarine containing product and these fuckers inability to read their own lab results. Muscarine is potent toxin, and 7mg/gummy is an outrageous amount.

These are the poisonous ones specifically. For some reason they are 50% off 🤔. Better buy now, while you can get poisoned for only half the price: https://amanitamushrooms.com/products/amanita-mushroom-gummies

The second image in the above link are the labs showing the toxic contents (7.3mg of muscarine per gummy). Those gummies will turn you into a drooling, salivating mess. Enough will kill you.

And it packages nicely into these neat little pamphlets and squishy little bags.

No sir, I don't like it!

Yeah looks like cubensis. Amantia are those big fuck off red capped mushrooms arn't they? An eigth isn't much of a dose - try doubling it.

I do envy you having legal psilocybin. Can you buy those psilocybin chocolate bars in Detroit?
