We've all been lied to about smokeless tobacco (dip, chew, snus, etc)

You actually have a far greater chance of getting ORAL cancer from smoking than from dipping and of course dipping won't cause lung cancer or emphysema. In fact, the evidence shows that the risks of smokeless tobacco (ST) are actually quite minimal compared to cigarettes and many of the cases you see of people missing half their face due to oral cancer may in fact be coincidental rather than caused by ST.

Check out www.tobaccoharmreduction.org if you want to see for yourself.

I recently quit smoking and started dipping and I find it so much more enjoyable. The buzz is a lot different and lasts much longer. It's way cheaper and so much healthier and doesn't leave your clothes or your house smelling like stale smoke. I strongly recommend everyone to try making the switch. Of course it was easy for me because I never liked cigarettes much to begin with, whereas I love dip. It makes me awake and alert but also relaxed and for me, is a far better stimulant than pretty much all the others I've tried. I would rather have some dip than cocaine or amphetamines because there is no horrendous come down or hours and hours of insomnia.

I agree with allot of what you say. The only thing I would like to point out from my personal experience is that I found oral tobacco to be more addicting than cigarettes. At least for me this may be because you get so much more nicotine. It was easy for me to go from chew to cigarettes but not the other way around. could be different for other people.

i use to use dip only but it isnt really attractive for a female to be carrying around a brown bottle of sludge, spittin into it all day long. so i stopped

Oh I know, there is a huge social stigma against ST. However, I personally find smoking to be far grosser than dipping. There are also types of ST that dont require spitting.

The types of ST that are designed so you do not need to spit are even more addicting, its like moving from strait chewing to gutting your spit. Strong drug with in a very strong delivery system.. Just something to consider. If you just want a good nicotine buzz and no hassle just swallow nicotine lozenges.. works well. Another option to consider is the new generations of e cigarettes, big hit big nicotine with the 30(mg.. mcg..??) gel. I have not looked into the true safety of nicotine cigs but they are cheep and don't smell. good luck.

I have smoked some quality e-cigs. Some converted to hold wax or hash oil, others left alone for nicotine, some custom made, some store bought. You can be extremely discreet with these e-cigs (I've seen people smoking them in the bank, restaurants, grocery stores..., and while I'm no scientist I'd argue that e-cigs have to be the safest/most enjoyable ROA for nicotine. You still get the pleasure of the smoking aspect, w/o the 10k chemicals that burn in a regular cig.

Only smokeless tobacco I've tried was a hot mess. Friend gave me a huge dip, didn't teach me how to pack it right and wound up with a mouthful of what felt like "mud". And even worse were the spins, I felt like a drunk on the verge of vomiting. So there is no question in my mind, dip gets you more of a buzz (too much for my tastes).

And then there's this "Snus" stuff (I think that's what it's called) from Camel. They give you these little individual packages that have been pre-packed for you so you don't have to worry about the Snus getting everywhere. Makes the product easier to handle too, I'd imagine. You put in your mouth against the gum. Swallowing the Snus spit wont make you sick like normal dip would.

I think Snus was designed for people in an office setting or on an airplane or something. Somewhere hardcore nicotine addicts won't be able to fix.

^I love Camel snus; they just seem too weak/subtle. They originally came from Sweden though.

Shit, I don't use tobacco frequently, and once or twice I've put in a big dip & briefly felt slightly like I'd done a shot of coke.

^I believe it man, there is an almost instant head change when you use that stuff. Its something I could learn to love, but why bother? I have enough vices already.

Oh well... still rather have my cancer stick than this shit... it's nasty as fuck in my opinion (cigarettes are too but dip... can't do it). I hate seeing people spit that shit out and get it all over their teeth...

Oh I know, there is a huge social stigma against ST.

Oh tell me about it =D My partner really dislikes me using ST so I haven't been using in a while, though I managed to get hooked on nicotine via those damn patches again. For now I just use the pipe, but on towards the topic:

Did you know you can make your own 'snus' type... don't know what I should call it, dip I guess? Just buy a pouch of tobacco, grind it up in a blender to as fine powder as you can, add some water, a little bit of 'cooked' sodium bicarbonate (baking soda, aids with absorbption, use carefully because things get kinda caustic when you go for higher alkalinity), some water, mix it up to a nice paste, maybe add a pinch of salt if you think that will help with the saliva and voila. I buy the cheapest brand tea I can get in a 100pc teabag package and just cut a teabag in half, empty it, put some of the paste in there and roll it up so it doesn't leak. Then just hit it behind your upper lip. Cheap, effective and you can make it as strong as you want. You can flavor it too, but I prefer not to.

I agree with you about the oral cancer from dip being way over hyped and I still like a dip from time to time especially with opiates as it really makes me nod hard sometimes. As far as cigarettes go I also like them from time to time with my opiates, but as of the last month I have been smoking wayyy to many in my opinion and even my friends are saying I'm bumming way too many cigs off them. I feel like Im catching a cig habit which is something Ive avoided for so long and am going to be pissed if i start smoking on the regular :\ Still havent bought a pack yet though.

as others have said quitting ST is wayy harder than cigs.i made the change from cigs to ST(easy) and my intentions were to then quit the ST as well..didnt happen ...20 yrs later and still cant quit that shit...

I call bullshit. I know too many people who got oral cancer from dipping and other problems from dipping. The Nation Institute of Cancer says different anyways.

Chewing tobacco and snuff contain 28 cancer-causing agents. Leathery white patches and red sores are common in dippers and chewers and can turn into can. Smokeless tobacco users have an increased risk of developing cancer of the oral cavity because of that.

TL;DR?

Smoking tobacco will give an increased risk of throat and lung cancer. Smokeless tobacco will give an increased risk for oral cancer and cause sores that could develop into cancer.

In my opinion, a good wad of skoal wintergreen trumps cigarettes in almost every way. I started using dip maybe three months ago and I love it. The only time I smoke a cig is first thing in the morning when I haven't the patience to wait for my nicotine rush and when I go outside, as you get funny looks for chewing here in Canada.

I remember when I regretfully picked up a tin because I wanted to clean out my lungs so I could start jogging. Then I couldn't put it down haha.

Dipping is all fun and games as long as you dont pack a fat lip. It sounds like a lot of you guys dip way too much at once. For someone who isn't seriously addicted to nicotine, a small pinch is more than enough!
