I have a new pair of shoes that are killing the back of my feet where my achilles tendon is and I had been using tons of bandaids to help the pain. I want to break these shoes in so I can were them, because right now I can't wear them for more than a few hours.

So, I was digging through the bathroom drawer looking for bandaids and couldn't find any. But, I did see a panty liner and thought to myself I wonder if this would work. And I'd be damn it worked better that 20 bandaids.

I know it sounds strange but if it works it works.

Anyone else have any things they have found other uses for other than what they were designed for?

Um I am not sure of anything that creative but I do make a lot of homemade stuff.. soap for the house, animals, people..

Dryer sheets come in very handy for a lot of stuff.. like static on clothing, cleaning drill bits, washing soap scum, untangling needles and thread, shoe fresheners, drawer fresheners, cleaning irons.. stuff like that..

Cleaning pollen off window screens. :P

Not totally creative at all, but when we had carpeting installed, they cut away a spot for the floor air vent (~7"x4") and for a cupboard--The floor air vent carpeting gets used as a coaster of sorts for my desk and the carpet from the cupboard would be an ideal lining for a small dog crate. It would be in use if only our small dog wasn't petrified when I put it (something new! oh no!) in her crate!

Mounting board for photographs cut to size to make a "lining" for wire shelves and turn dog crates into tables!

I guess this fits in here? i made chalkboards out of an old screen doors once for me and a friend..

I don't think it's really that weird, but I like fill plastic quart containers with water and freeze them, throw about four of them in a big cooler on a camping trip, along with regular ice cubes and it goes long way. To take the piece of ice out of the container just run hot water over it for a little bit.

LOL Tink, that is great! So innovative ;) I actually have that problem with these shoes I just bought, they are so cute but now I have ginorm blisters on the back of my ankles! I love stuff like this! I have a couple I found online that I think are cool:

- You can sharpen a pair of old scissors, just fold a piece of foil a few times and then cut through it.

- Use dental floss to cut a cake, it's easier and a cleaner cut than a knife.

- When you are in a hurry and accidentally cut yourself while shaving, ChapStick lets you avoid the telltale tissue paper blotter. Simply rub your tube of ChapStick over the cut to quickly stop the bleeding.

- If your shoes are wet, put crumpled up pieces of newspaper in them overnight and it will dry them.

- You can use olive oil instead of shaving cream if you run out. (I use conditioner sometimes too)

- If you have salt stains on your shoes, you can wipe them off with plain white vinegar and it will take the salt off.

- Baking soda - if you run out of deodorant or toothpaste you can use baking soda instead (lol)

THIS is awesome. I need one, now.

ff- ALL great ideas!!
I'll use a few for sure!

All you need is an old screen door, particle board to fit in the section you want to be your chalkboard and then chalk board paint and of course paint if you want to repaint the door. :)

^ wouldn't the wet newspaper leave ink marks/smears? The same with using them to dry shoes? I get pretty dirty hands just reading a newspaper :/

I have a friend who coated the front of her refrigerator in chalkboard paint, fantastic idea for some fun in the kitchen whilst bored :D

^ Surprisingly enough, no. It may leave ink stains on your hands though. I've tried this, and it works swimmingly.

We used to freeze water in gallon milk jugs. When it was time to ice down the kegs, you just hit the frozen plastic with a hammer and the plastic breaks and it's all ice baby!!!

as far as your foot woes go, they make this stuff called moleskin thats perfect for blisters, corns and shoe hot spots.

^^^ yeah but I can buy 30 panty liners for a buck and moleskin is expensive. Its even cheaper than using bandaids. I will convert everyone!! lol. Men will be buying panty liners for those new shoes.

You can use red cabbage as a pH indicator.

My dad is into that kind of stuff. He tested my pH level the other day and it was really low. My dad's professor friend told him that taking a tablespoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water once per day will raise your pH level.

hustla - that's mostly hogwash. If your actual pH was off by anything more than 0.1 or so from physiological pH (7.4), you'd be very sick. How did they test? I've heard of people putting strips on the tongue, which tells you a bit about your saliva's pH, which isn't necessarily indicative of anything.

All the bicarb will do is neutralize any stomach acid that is in your stomach at the time.
