A friend recently started smoking. Whenever he gets high, he doesn't feel any of the euphoric effects, but rather describes the experience as "weird" or unsettling; it is not a painful or expressly "bad" or negative experience. He merely describes it as uncomfortable. Furthermore, he doesn't seem to be receiving any of the cognitive effects of the high, regardless of whether the weed is body-heavy or head-heavy; the most he feels in his mind is a flattening effect, as though his thoughts were depressed or slowed. As near as I can tell, he seems to be experiencing the effects of the body high--pressure on certain points, tightness of skin, a vibration or shaking, etc.-- without any of the euphoric aspects which making being high pleasurable, and few or none of the cognitive effects. We tried smoking him up on a couple different strains of weed and some JWH-018, which hit him really hard, and increased the intensity of the uncomfortable feeling to the level of a negative experience.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this would be happening? My first guess is that it's simply because he's just starting to smoke and some of the cannabanoids are affecting him and causing the effects he is experiencing, while the ones which make the high pleasurable have yet to start setting in, and he simply needs to keep smoking. My other guess is that this individual has been on a fairly serious prescribed drug program over the past couple of years for various health problems--adderall, methamphetamines, other things I don't remember. I suspect it's possible that the medications are interfering with the high. However, he hadn't been on any medications for several weeks before smoking for the first time. Of course, both these ideas might be nonsense.
Any ideas that anyone might have as to why he's not experiencing the enjoyable effects of cannabis would be welcome, as well as any advice as to help him get an enjoyable experience out of it?
