Weird DMT extraction issue

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me shed some light on my situation. I got some new bark from a new source, and every time I've extracted it, except, oddly, the first time, it behaves differently than I have ever seen before. The first pull will color the naphtha very dark yellow, darker than any other bark I've had. Then each pull on the same bark after that will result in the naphtha turning a brown color, with increasingly dark layers until it meets an emulsion layer. Or it looks like an emulsion layer, anyway. I have had emulsions in the past, but have been able to break them up with a hot water bath and/or vibration. But with emulsion, the naphtha layer is still light yellow. But with this bark, it never breaks up, and the naphtha layer is brown. The picture below is after it had sat for a full 24 hours, in a hot water bath most of the time, and even with a round sitting on the dryer to vibrate it. I've never seen this before, what gives?

Yeah it's more finely powdered than I've had before, it takes up maybe 20% more volume by weight. I was wondering if it was just super fine particulate. When I first extract with naphtha, the resulting DMT is brown, but when I recrystallize in heptane, I get crystals that are just slightly more yellow than I get from other barks. The yield is decent.

Mimosa. It's weird because I've done a lot of different extractions from a number of different bark sources and this is the only time I've seen this.

The strange part though is how it doesn’t do this on the first pull... If it was fine particulate you’d see this issue on each pull I’d imagine.

My best guess is the first pull is very saturated with DMT so doesn’t take up much of this “crap” but subsequent pulls less so and your getting more fats/garbage.

An full A/B next time would avoid both possible issues ;)

Yeah in fact I am adding salt, doesn't seem to help.

I freeze precipitated my dark naphtha and the naphtha went back to medium yellow, and the bottom has a thick layer of brown slurry which clearly is largely DMT but a lot of gunk too, and some nice yellow crystals formed on top. I'm going to recrystallize shortly with heptane, hoping the gunk will drop to the bottom when heated in a hot water bath and I can suck it out of there and get a nice product.

Not gonna use the source again as I've never had this problem before.

Generally speaking, dark naptha layers & goop in the extracted material means the bark is too old. I did a run on some shredded bark that was sitting for a year or more at r.t. in a ziploc and had a similar problem.

I think that with time, aerobic oxidation causes polymeric compounds to form, both from the DMT and the flavonoids in the bark. Powdered bark probably goes bad faster than shredded bark.

Interesting, thanks sekio.

I ended up with a dark brown crystally crap, which I rerystallized and sucked out some of the dark layer, and ended up with lighter brown, better crystal formation, but still pretty brown.

Cant you just eat the roots raw, arglbarhnssh, aaaaaahhhnsanmmnmnnaaaamnnn, burp, like the did in the old days? I mean Jesus was a hippie, right, nuh?

You can consume the plant material, though to get the full dose you basically need to make a tea. But, I don't want to consume it orally, at least not usually. So I have to extract it into pure DMT crystals.

Not sure that’s the case.. I’ve worked on bark that’s been sitting for multiple years no problem, although always a full A/B.

I had a batch recently that I had trouble getting to crystalize. It turned to goo, it smells like DMT. It was labelled Mexican MHRB instead of the usual Brazilian and is a different color. I am going to whip up two batches at the same time with each kind of bark. Its possible I just fucked it up, even though I always do it exactly the same, and it worked every other time
