Weed with hard ash

Hello,
is someone here aware of this thing? When you put it in a joint, the ash needs to be knocked of, it's not falling from J if it's small, if it's really big it will fall, if you put it in a pipe or bong it's just really hard between your fingaz.
Maybe someone here knows something about this stuff? I'am no expert at all, maybe it's fertilizer, maybe it's sprayed with something?

We had some shitty weed here before, one was definately laced/sprayed with something, cuz it tasted like 9V battery on tongue, hah, and it was almost toxic green colour, that shit was bad. And now again this thing with hard ash, ehh.

hard ash is simply sprayed weed to either weigh the bag down or to speed the plant growth up. it's discusting, there's differant types of spray some worse then others. names for this are known as; grit weed, hard ash, sprayed weed etc. there's four known types of spray; glass contamination (which is shocking), industrial spray, suger or sand contamination and micro contaminants (not visable). hope this helped.

I think some unscrupulous growers take hydroponic products (e.g. silica supplements) and instead of using them properly, just spray them all over the buds while they're growing to bump the weight up. They could be using something harmless or something toxic, but there's no easy way to tell. Just refuse to buy it and tell all of your friends to do the same. Eventually enough people will stop falling for it that they'll move on to some other, less dangerous method of ripping people off (e.g. uncured, wet weed, which is easy to remedy after you've bought it if you don't mind waiting).

are you in the uk by any chance?

i've had weed in the uk before which is as you described, if you put it in a bong after smoking you'll be left with something that resembles a husk of charcoal.

you could smoke an entire joint without having to flick the ash even once, the ash it leaves looks like the lead in a pencil. if you touch wet the black hard ash it turns into oil... i've even made some finger paintings with it

refuse to buy any more of it and get a new dealer. nasty contaminated shit.

I've had the same in Finland many times, I suspect it's imported from maybe Holland. Tastes like chemicals when you lick it and ash turns black, hard and oily. The bud was really high quality though, some of the best I've had actually. It's a shame that they contaminate good weed.

Regular grit weed (like the stuff that was really common a few years ago) is usually easy to identify from appearance and feel alone, the really finely sprayed stuff is what's worrying because I imagine a lot of people wouldn't even notice (especially in this country where most people roll really weak joints with 75% baccy, probably disguising the tell-tale ash).

This can happen with more than hydroponic weed, and more than foliar spraying. I've had 'hard ash', 'black ash', 'wont burn', 'tastes bad' buds before. As a more than slightly experienced grower, we're often able to trace this to what're called 'unflushed' plants. This is when people push the limits of (over)feeding the plant nutrients up until day of harvest. The addition of minerals which are built up in the plant are one of several factors that can greatly effect the smoke-ability of your grass.

There's no way unflushed weed produces oily ash (maybe it could affect the taste, but I've seen lots of top growers claiming that flushing isn't necessary, and regardless, curing would have a bigger impact on the taste), and I wasn't talking about foliar feeding but rather spraying things directly on to the growing buds (where they aren't taken up, though correct me if I'm wrong) so that when they dry and crystallise, they act as filler material inside the buds, with the sole purpose of bumping the weight up. I think some people on other forums have even identified one of the specific products that causes the oily ash.

When I read the first post, I was going to say that some weed can have hard, black ash if it's not grown properly, but after reading some of these posts it sounds like there's some kind of crazy shit going on in some places of the world... I've never seen any sort of contaminated weed where I'm from. I've seen some gross weed, but never anything like what some of you guys are describing. I feel really lucky to live in northern california now. I can't believe someone would ruin the weed just to make a few more dollars. Humanity is disgusting.

Yeah, your weed is adulterated. More info here, if you felt like posting a pic of your adulterated weed and of the abnormal ash you'd be doing the community a favour.

If you're in or around the UK, "grit" weed is not by any means uncommon. If you're in the US, "grit" weed has only been reported a very few amount of times in the time that I've been here.

I'm not going to go ahead and jump to the conclusion that you did in fact have a bag of this nasty shit, but that does line up with previous descriptions. A picture would help, but even then, it's difficult to come up with a definitive answer... and that is why we have the rule "no 'is my weed' laced questions," but this is a little bit different.

I wouldn't take a hit off a damn blunt of that fucked up tree. If your dealer is a buddy of yours, inform him, and then find another source. You don't want to tear up your insides by inhaling hot sand or microscopic glass shards.

If you or anyone else has personal pictures of grit weed, we have never had clear , non-camera phone pictures.

Just picked up some of this "oily ash" stuff mentioned above, did a search for a recent topic on this sprayed sh.t and found this! so i thought i'd sign up. (Hello!)

You can tell straight away with this stuff that it's sprayed just by pressing it between your fingers. Feels really dense and dry on the outside, but soft or spongey (and usually quite wet) on the inside. It's all lies.

Couple of tokes into it and i'm hearing fizzing sounds, you can hear it just by blowing on the cherry (the hot bit) of the J... sounds pretty nasty! - Ash is also going hard.
Did the old "oily ash test"...
Proceeded to wet my fingers and press the ash, what was left was enough sh.t on them to paint a red indian.

I knew about the 'Brix' stuff and the plastic/glass/sand contaminents, but was wondering if this stuff is something different? Or just another 'brix' or "organic" (but dangerous) product that's particularly noteable because of the black ash?

Eurgh! Either way...F.ck that! I'm not smoking it.

We're all better than that...
I'm going to look at it in disgust and have a ciggarette with a cup of tea! :p

(will post pictures shortly)

I've never had contaminated weed like that. The most similar to what you're talking about is stuff that I had that was getting shipped to my dude at the time. The first batch was delicious-it was locally grown and fresh. The second batch was the shipped in stuff. The taste when to shit after a few hits. I was sad too cause the first batch had the best taste ever. I can't say I know much about sprayed buds though. Though I don't think this is the reason in your case, I hear putting orange peels in the same bag as your bud will add a light orange taste/smell to the buds but also increase weight. I tried it once and it did both. I figure some dealers might try that trick.

I have a tip you could try if you buy this weed. Put it in a glass of water over night to clean it up. I tried this once and it smoked much better. The ash was still a bit hard but not near as much as before cleaning it.
