Weed has gotten several times stronger over the past 50 years. What are your thoughts?

Frankly Im a bit annoyed. I don’t smoke regularly enough to build a tolerance so I like being able to get a nice productive high without getting blasted off to mars or having to roll a microscopic joint. I wanna hear what you guys think.

you can grow some great weed under fluorescents that doesn't have a lot of thc or crazy terps if you get a chance and feel up to it... like even strains that are supposed to have a lot of thc don't really come out very strong... i'd say the buds i grew under a 400watt HPS and like 100watt LED only had between 5-10% thca, and no more than that definitely... i'd say fluorescent should even be less powerful, so the buds won't be strong.. you can grow them seeded or not seeded too.. a lot of people say they like the seeded mids. for the most part i've never been able to get mids that were clean/fresh and didn't bother my lungs. growing under lower powered lights is definitely an alternative to what most people grow commercially.

personally i'm addicted to the stronger weed... what i grew tasted fine and everything, but i grew a bunch of weed i couldn't even smoke. i'd use it at the bottom of a bowl for a while and top the bowls off with shake from stronger buds. but i eventually just stopped growing indoors... the bud i grew outdoors was stronger and i didn't even have the plants in an area with direct sun light for most of the day. those buds were probably like 15%thca, which is just enough to get me high.

honestly i wonder if i was using drugs in the 70's and what not as opposed to being a 2000's teen, i think i might've had problems with harder drugs if weed wasn't as strong as it is.. i really don't know what kind of person i would be.. like if fentanyl wasn't around, and i had good connects, i'd probably be more into harder stuff, or at least for a time anyways. maybe i'd need rehab and stuff more if it weren't for how strong the pot is.. pot is pretty much my DOC and always around, it eases the pain of withdrawl from other drugs for me.. idk. it's usually good for me..... i'm a person that likes to have a daily habbit, so i don't know if psychedelics would've been enough for me.

not strong enough, i barely catch a buzz from 1 bowl in a vape

if weed was too strong we wouldn't have extractions like dabs
Well sure but the reason you need the extracts to catch a buzz because your tolerance is fucked because everything is 25% thc these days and then the extracts only exacerbate it.

I've only gotten into using RSO and vaping distilate for the indoor convenience this year but for the last few years I've just been buying the cheapest shake I could find because I know even that is still plenty strong.

Once you get into extracts/dabbing flower is always going to feel like a cup of decaf by comparison, and that is a shame.

flower pretty much gives me the best high.... i definitely don't get the same high from carts... i don't have too much experience combusting extracts, but i dunno about them from the experience i have... flower high is the best imo.
It wouldn't be such an issue if they grew and sold older genetics.

It is annoying.

Sometimes I just want a mellow relaxing buzz, not a 10 hour psychosis hot-railed into my brain.
all the strains pretty much came from original landrace genetics though..

i think if you put a lot of the classic strains under the higher power lights with certain fertilizers, they will come out just as strong as most of the newer strains for the most part.... i really can't stress enough how much lighting and fertilizer will change buds, like literally i feel like a strain that could grow to be 30%thca under the strongest lighting will only be like 3-5%thca under most fluorescent set ups.

not to say some strains aren't more mellow though.. some of the classic strains must've had that going on... sour diesel is known to be a tasty strain that isn't too over whelming.

Completely agree.

Some good hash might change my tune but that's harder to come by.

I've asked my parents who point to the fact that in the 60s they would smoke weed and then go and do something 'while stoned'. The stuff today seems like uses have the option of either smoking weed OR doing stuff.

They certainly HATE skunk. Hash and Thai... on occassion. But not the crazy potent stuff.

My mother said that cannabis used to be like wine - now it's like everclear.

I dont think weed has actually gotten any stronger really. It's just that with modern quality control the thc levels are bound to be higher. I mean high thc strains like durban poison, Acapulco gold, Malawi and red Congo have been around since forever

>> Weed has gotten several times stronger over the past 50 years.

Lets just consider these couple scenarios, either we pay some fair attention to the title and its rigorous interpretation, or spare ourselves the aggravation of falling once again into yet another typical sample of inflationary propaganda which i'd have expected to pop up 2 weeks ago anyway.

1st, the hard way. The concept of « several times » would seem to indicate that using a single word as "twice" was insufficient, so it's not about a 200 % boost. Hence we can guess it actually suggests some integral number starting at 3 times or 300 % and more, fine. But 300+ % more relatively to what, back in the mid-'70s? Male leaves perhaps?...

Then comes my 2nd option. The 1% nostalgia of bigot prohibitionists implies exposure to an elevated amount of contaminants/"$anitary additive$" which of course get conveniently ignored by the haters who'd rather not admit they wish us to engage into self-poisoning on a regular/repeated basis, while it's nothing to compare with eating industrially-produced strawberries.

Just in case nobody noticed, alcohol automatically comes with a glass, e.g. a simple & affordable dosing method that induces auto-conscientisation ideally; in short we know there's something odd going on when a guy shows up drinking directly from a 40 oz bottle of strong "liquor"...

Now it's time i bring back this graphic i keep re-posting practically every year i think:

Animation for 2-to-1 THC vs CBD Ratio .GiF

Leafly: How to Help Consumers Understand the Amount of THC and CBD in Their Cannabis (2017-Nov-29)

The approximative yellow perimeter illustrates limitations of genetic encoding for cannabinoïds and their "entourage effect", the plant can't physically dedicate much more than about 30 % to it or we'd have a blob instead of nuggets. In other words there's this undeniable barrier the bigots prefer to forget about, perhaps because if they did account for that then the wheel might stop spinning, which would threaten their purpose, ultimately their own existence... That's why every 4-20 on top of every Halloween the old taglines resurface again and again and again, ad infinitum, ad nauseam!

And how do we know it's really propaganda? I'd say such simplistic slogans tainted with absolutism, leaving no space for nuances in a grey zone: like "weed" is pure evil, etc.

Forget about « H.R. » notions, avoid talking about the pervert effect of dishonest/disrespectful « légaleezation » supposed to protect kids & society while fighting "organized crime" itself financing "terrorism" and more... Alleluïa!!

What's even more odd these days is to observe a perpetuation of THC-centric produ¢t$ on the fre$h-new "legal" market$ besides buzz-denying so-called "balanced" 1:1 THC:CBD and Full-CBD that usually imply declaration of a medical si¢kne$$ requiring a signature in support of unjust laws, though nothing like this exists for alcohol, tobacco and firearms. In any case the graphic above makes it quite evident we're actually witnessing a man-made disaster in terms of Public Health, designed to avoid the 2:1 zone for some reason.

In The Name Of Children!!

See ya next year, or at Halloween. ☮️

Average thc levels are much higher than they use to be . Levels in the nineties on average were four percent. Average today are twenty percent. Some strains have 12% thc , while others have 30%. In the seventies, eighties, nineties I've read two to five percent.

Last time I bought and smoked " reg " was 2019. The days of reg or loud has been gone from my vocabulary.

It takes less time to smoke along with higher THC levels, which I prefer . As far as CBD , I mix it with THC , certain times . I've used smoked CBD solo for a few weeks while not cheifing any THC cañnabis. Eating is is probably the healthiest . Definitely a different feeling than smoking.

If I'm wanting to get more THC in my system like before bed for sleep I eat it. I know science says THC esp closer to sleep reduces rem sleep. I find when I eat weed before bed I seem to sleep well.

Thank you and all untouched landrace strains.

So it's only the extracts that really upped the bar in potency.
