So iv been smoking weed for about 5 months, almost every day maybe sometimes id skip a day. OUt of no where my highs starting getting horrible. Each time when id smoke right after id finish the joint, id start getting super anxious, even tho iam with my freinds and peple iam normally comfortable with.

But i was only anxious when i was high, after it got sober it went away. So i decided to stop smoking weed and now and i started getting anxiety every where all the time without being high??. Its been like this 3-4 months after my last time smoking weed, what is this? has this happend to anybody else?

I also get severe panic attacks when I smoke cannabis. It is so bad that I rarely toke straight cannabis anymore. What I find works well for getting stoned without panic is Marinol (THC pills). I have also heard many reports of the JWH synthetic cannabinoids being effective without causing anxiety, though I have yet to try them.

Anxiety is a known side effect of long term cannabis use. It has to do with the down-regulation of your cannabinoid receptors in response to constantly being drenched in THC and other cannabinoids. Basically, the receptors become 'numb', and this precipitates secondary effects like anxiety and paranoia.

Ironically, if you stop the cannabis use, you will now be depriving those receptors, which are already numb, of the extra THC, thus causing the withdrawal effects of (even more) anxiety and perhaps depression.

The best way to use cannabis is once or twice a week, at most. If you think you need to use it every day, then perhaps you should look into that. Maybe you have an underlying issue that would be better treated with a more targeted drug, like Lexapro.

EDIT: mrjackjones, I am willing to bet that the reports of JWH working better are probably due to the fact that it's much more potent and people take more than they think. In the end it will only delay the problems and make withdrawal that much worse. Probably.
