Weed: An acquired taste?

Got hooked on some opiates I was prescribed post surgery last year, and have been looking for something a little easier to come by and slightly less self destructive.

So after years of resistance, I finally decided to try some weed this past weekend. The experience was not enjoyable as I imagined it would be.

My highly experienced smoker friend seems to think that if I give it another few chances, I can learn to enjoy it.

So my question is this: Did it take anyone else a few attempts to enjoy it? And if so, how long?

Salutations Zola99,

Well, if you must become more appreciative of cannabis then why not forget about smoke right away and start planning a session involving some properly conditioned cannabic vapour instead?! I've been evaluating the heat-diffusing type of vaporizer-pipe since March and i'm totally converted to vaporism: cannabis shouldn't be used as charcoal only to keep a fire alive, IMHO!!

Plus, with the VG pipe i'm almost in heaven - if it hadn't been for an episodic weird reaction (pollen, contaminants, THC, go figure!), euh... That pipe could have been my "Plan-A" but not anymore, unfortunately, though as a SAMPLER i can't imagine anything more affordable while also being efficient in terms of aroma/taste and beyond (since inhalations are brief it provides a condensed experience)... The owner only needs to be clear of allergies!

Did it take anyone else a few attempts to enjoy it? And if so, how long?

My Plan-A was an electrical table device and balloons made my inhalations almost as brief as i required at the time - but i much prefer the "1 Hit" mode now! This is revealing nuances about cannabis in flash time, this burst mode enables me to feel those sensations in a more satisfying manner. So, i'd go with giving cannabis a fair try: don't burn it, vape it!

Avoid all the "interference" from combustion compounds if you can, you'd also render yourself a great service on the long run by doing so - though i don't pretend vaporization is 100 % safe over decades of chronic use. I can just tell i can't stand smoke and vapour feels good.

I was smoke-free since 2007 when i initiated myself to vaporisation on February 15, 2011. It was a done deal in a matter of weeks... That machine worked for 25 months and failed a week after i bought the pipe, lucky me! In fact i don't regret the switch, electricity has its good sides but it lacks the juice it would take to emulate my modded VG.

Aquired taste? My hope is that i'm not too late to find out!

=D

If I take a long break when I come back to smoking the experience is very strong like a shroom trip or something. Each successive attempt it becomes more and more manageable and enjoyable. At some point maybe after a few days of smoking I start to enjoy it. And this goes on until I'm so burnt out I want a bit of a break. For me weed is like a stimulant. I space out during the initial high but if I smoke in the morning I'm ready to face the day. It improves my mood and lowers my stress level. Give it a chance and stick to really low doses at first. Marijuana is not for everybody but I think most people enjoy it.

I certainly do

I think it's also got to do with what you expect out of the high. A friend of mine wanted to smoke for the first time, I prepared a bong and a few minutes later nothing.. His mind was set on the idea that weed wouldn't get him high, so naturally I started the vape and prepared another bong meanwhile, long story short he had around 1.5g and he said he didn't feel any different.. (I smoke a considerable amount per day and I was really tripping)

While on the other hand I've seen people smoke for the first time and go crazy (literally just freak out and think that the ground is moving and shit)

What I mean to say is, if you want to enjoy it, think you'll enjoy it. Let the green to the rest ;)

Yeah it was like that for me as well especially if I'd smoke a nice Sativa or vaporize it. The first few times I smoked weed I got minimal effects but I didn't know how to really smoke and I was smoking low quality or mid grade at the best decades ago. I no longer use anything; but I have friends who have smoked pot once or a few times and they said how they didn't like it compared to other drugs. Try different types/strains of it like Indica based ones since you were into opiates.

I think it's about finding the right amount. My friend didn't like it his first couple of times because it was very overwhelming but he found his limit and really likes it. But to be perfectly honest...it really isn't for everybody. It's quite a unique drug and while I find it to be amazing, some people don't like the "trippy" hallucinogenic and anxious feel that it has. It relaxes me. So yes...it's completely an acquired taste. I say give it a few more times and smoke it in small amounts, or try a different ROA.

Salutations BadFish45,

Don't say more: i'd probably feel equally anxious if i were to experience hallucinations under the influence of vaporized Cannabis!

...give it a few more times...

Hummm... Did it work right out when i tried "pot" for the very 1st time?... Not so easy to think of a reply i'd be certain to be accurate, euh...

No wait, i didn't try cannabis in any other form than hashish when i started! I think!?... Dry Cannabis flowers arrived relatively recently, a few years before i quit all smoking definitively. My actual initiation to Cannabis occured awhile ago, that was no hashish and it wasn't smoked.

The new habbit didn't seem hard to acquire, in any case.

=D

It took me a few attempts..
I kept getting sick at first, and pretty much hated the feeling it gave me..
Later i realized that it was just the tobacco in the mix which was making me feel so shitty.
Since i started smoking it green, I have never had a problem.
So if you're looking to make the switch from opiates to weed, you should try various methods of smoking until you find a way which suits you.
Good luck :)
