Vinpocetine as a possible trip ender.

Howdy, this is my first post after being a lurker for a few years.

This post details an LSD trip which was ended prematurely with the use of vinpocetine (or possibly betain hcl).

Background:
I have had 28 prior trips with dosages ranging from 1 to 6 hits of LSD (arbitrary, I know, but I have experienced very mind-wrenching trips and know that this one trip that I experienced isn't normal) .
I realize that a minor trip could last 8 hours with very little psychological changes or past 15 hours with extreme reality disturbances.

A few months ago I bought LSD from a friend whom I tripped with regularly. I had bought three liquid hits, of which he said that even just one would be a decent trip. From what he and others had said, three hits would be close to the equivalent of 400 micrograms or more of acid. I had filled three size 00 gelcaps with sugar and had him place one drop of the liquid in each. These pills were stored in my glasses case overnight, to be taken the next day.

I dosed with two hits at approximately noon the next day (the sugar+lsd pills had been sitting in my glases case for about 10 hours), and proceeded to take 500mg of piracetam with orange juice. (As a sidenote, at the time of my trip, I was regularly taking piracetam and vinpocetine on a semi-daily basis for studying purposes.) I had taken the piracetam as a supplement for tripping because I had read that it increases the psychedelic response of lsd and other drugs.

After taking both piracetam and two of the lsd pills, I sat down to watch a movie on my laptop. About an hour into the movie I started to feel the effects of the initial dose of lsd, and decided "what the hell, I'll take the other pill".

Approximately three hours after the initial dosing and one hour after the supplemental dosing I was feeling the full effects of the drugs. I was lying on my bed staring at my laptop's screen watching the icons dance when I started to feel funny. I felt as if I was in a room with a few other people who were experiencing the same situation of icons dancing on the laptop infront of me. I knew that I was the only one in the room and was not worried, as I knew that this feeling was just an effect of the acid. This did not bother me, and I decided to try and meditate to distract my mind from this multiplicity and focus on my life and situations which I was dealing with.

This dosing was definitely powerful. Four hours after my initial dosing, I was feeling at a definite plus three on the Shulgin scale. I had been meditating for the past hour and was at a very good place mentally. I was not anxious or worried, nor was I feeling like I was going to lose control. I was very peaceful and contemplative. I liked where I was at, but wanted to be at a higher state, so I went to kitchen and took another 500mg of piracetam but also took one 20 mg pill of vinpocetine and one 600mg pill of betain hcl. Both of these additional supplements were taken with the intent of intensifying my already pretty intense trip.

Close to 45 minutes after I had taken the supplements, most if not all of my visuals had completely ceased, and my mind was silent. My mind was silent. This had never happened on my LSD trips. Usually, my mind would race with as many thoughts as possible during the first 7+ hours or more. Somehow the vinpocetine or betaine had stopped my trip.

About two hours or so after I took the vinpocetine(at about 5 hours after dosing) I was at a plus one but still had a light paranoid mindset that people would know I was on drugs. I decided to go on a bikeride, and made it just a couple hundred yards past my house before my bike's chain fell derailed. I was still slightly concerned with being outside due to the very minor paranoid feelings, but had absolutely no visuals or any other typical 'schizoid' LSD thoughts like feeling the presence of 'others'. I managed to fix my bike's chain and had a great bike ride.

Looking back on my trip there are two things I noticed. Either the vinpocetine or the betain hcl completely stopped my trip. I had taken a moderate to high dosage of LSD which did not follow its normal plateau (7+ hours) to a slow comedown, but instead came down after only about 5 hours. The visuals and mental action of the dose I took was definitely as strong as was told by my friends (up until the supplements), but was rendered barely noticeable after dosing the vinpocetine.

MAIN POINT:
I took vinpocetine (and betain hcl) less than halfway through a fairly strong dose of LSD and suddenly stopped tripping. I have no reason to believe that this was not LSD, as it was given in liquid form, and had been taken many times before by my close friends.

Has anyone every taken the two together? I have read that vinpocetine is a synthetic analogue to its plant relative vincamine, which is an antipsychotic. Do you think that this is why my tripped ended?

Also, is anyone who takes vinpocetine regularly willing to try and take it close to the end of an LSD trip to see if it speeds the comedown/aborts the trip?

I have been curious as to what stopped my trip, but have not been able to get ahold of any LSD (or any psychedelic) to test my hypothesis that vinpocetine had aborted my trip.

Hopefully, vinpocetine could be used by any tripper who is in over their head ( sort of pun) or in a bad place and is wanting to abort. Vinpocetine can be found in just about any supplement shop legally, whereas prescription antipsychotics cannot.

I have serious doubts that vinpocetine caused this, I have had visuals and raging thoughts stop as well after meditating, it's just another phase of the trip that is usually in the end where you become clear-minded and peaceful.

Another reason for my doubt is that I can't find anywhere that vincamine is an antipsychotic, where did you read that? Rather vinpocetine works neuropharmacologically similar to reserpine which does have antipsychotic properties.

Before attaching any more meaning to what happened to you I would like to see evidence that vinpocetine has the same properties or hear about other trials with people successfully aborting their trip with the substance.

I've heard there are reasons to generally avoid vinpocetine though, be careful please.

Ah, foolish me. You are completely correct in saying that vincamine is not an anti-psychotic. I was thinking about a statement on wikipedia about reserpine and vinpocetine.

Increases in neuronal levels of DOPAC, a metabolic breakdown product of dopamine, have been shown to occur in striatal isolated nerve endings as a result of exposure to vinpocetine. Such an effect is consistent with the biogenic pharmacology of reserpine, a structural relative of vinpocetine, which depletes catecholamine levels and may cause depression as a side-effect of the cardiovascular and anti-psychotic effects.

This above quote is really the basis of my initial thought.
