My first and last contact before this with Tekken was Tekken 3 for the PSOne, which I largely did not like. Since then, I've found Soul Calibur II far superior in every way (and that remains my favourite fighting game - ooh, I'll make a thread for it next!). But when I gave this new Tekken a chance the other day, I got hooked when I discovered my affinity (and lust
) for Brian Fury!
My Boyfriend!
The game is pretty large, especially for a handheld. It features several fighting modes, many of which are unlockable. It has at least 32 characters to chose from, and I believe at least 1 secret character, all with their unique fighting styles and at least two costumes.
Perhaps the most delightful part of the game, though, is the customization. Besides the multiple costumes, each one of these can be further tweaked by adding many accessories and changing colours which can make for a very unique character. You buy these accessories using money you make by fighting. What's more, the CPU also customizes its characters, so you don't feel like you're fighting the same Anna or Jin every time you do so.
Another very interesting addition is multiple enemy AIs. The game is designed so that there are several virtual players that you fight against, each of whom has a different AI.
Sound: Excellent soundtrack with a few hits that I'd listen to just for fun, very good sound effects. 5/5
Graphics: This is one of the best-looking titles for the PSP, with lots of details, animated backgrounds, great artwork, and vibrant colours. 5/5
Story: This is the only real weakness for this game. Not only is the story nebulous and illogical, but the script-writing is simply horrendous. Embarrasingly so! 1/5
Gameplay: Lots of fun to be had, both in single player (thanks to the miltiple AIs) and in multiplayer. This is a fighting game that gives a purpose for fighting more and more - to create a highly-personalized, high-ranking character. Great replayability. 5/5
Overall: 4/5. One of the best for PSP.
