Anyone picking up MGS4 today? I got it last night and it's pretty sick. You probably need to have played the previous games to fully appreciate it, but either way, it's definitely a worthy purchase. It has an online mode (Metal Gear Online) as well, which is fun once you get a handle on the controls.

Add me on PSN (pacowles) if you plan on getting online with MGS4. Otherwise: discuss impressions of the game.

this is the ONLY game i will truely miss on the ps3. I loved the original MGS. It was almost as good as the original Tenchu!

I finally finished MGS4 today...it was nothing short of spectacular. The only real issue I can see some people having with it is the length of the cut-scenes. I'd estimate that just under half of the game is cut-scenes. That said, it's still one of the best games I've ever played. After I mess around with MGOnline for a while, I'm definitely gonna go back for a second round. If you have a PS3, you don't have much of an excuse on not picking this one up; it's the best game to hit the system yet by a wide margin.

Also: Agreed on the MGS2 being the weakest link.

word, 2 was OK. 3 owned. I want 4..but its so expensive for the bundle pack.

I would rather spend my money on drugs for now.

My first round (I think it was "solid normal" difficulty) was around 21 hours; that's with watching all cutscenes. Metal Gear Online, from the couple of hours I spent playing it, should be entertaining for quite some time.

I was not a fan of the MGS: Online it is really kinda shitty if you ask me...

The Game however was phenominal and it was a great end to a story arch that kept people entertained for well over 10 years. And while MGS2 may have been what a lot of people consider the weakest link, it's also one of the strongest links as it is a huge catalyst for what is taking place in 4.

That being said I just hated walking around as an emo kid in the 2nd one.

the multiplayer would just be people camping on each other being as how this game relied on stealth. is that the case?

I didn't like MGO initially either. It definitely takes some getting used to. You can't just run and gun and expect to do well. You have to creep around, use cover, and make use of the 3rd person camera angles to peek around corners and shit. It's hard to get used to and it's far from perfect, but it's a fun diversion.
Did you ever play the "Sneaking Mode" game type? One player plays as snake with full Octo-camo and good weapons and you have to tranq/kill 3 people and take their dog tags to win the round; if the other players kill you too many times before you do that, you loose. It's one of the better game types. Overall, MGO can be frustrating (sometimes you'll lay a clip into someone and they'll drop you in two shots), but it's fun once you get used to it and stop trying to play it like it's Call of Duty.

Edit:
@Impacto: no, there really isn't a lot of camping going on from what I've seen. A lot of strategic movement, i.e. crawling, playing dead, waiting around a corner to CQC(Close Quarters Combat) an unsuspecting player, but not camping in the traditional sense of standing in one place and gunning people down as they walk by. Maybe check youtube and see if they have any vids up; it's really hard to describe.

This game was epic. I cried manly tears.
