[This review is for the PSP version]
I just happened upon this beautiful tiny gem of a game. This is video game-as-art at its best.
The premise is extremely basic. You are an a simple organism in a watery environment (based on Benthos, although only geeks will notice this
). As you swim around using the directional buttons, you encouter other simple organisms that you can eat. The more you eat, the more developed your body becomes. The result is a spectacular showcase of the PSP's graphical capabilities, and an unforgeable experience.
I have purposely avoided posting screens since they suck and do the game more harm than good. It simply looks much better on a PSP screen, and animated - the animation is half the beauty.
Sound: Lovely ambient track that subtly shifts with development. Excellent sound effects. 5/5
Graphics: Some of the best the PSP has to offer, despite being insanely simplistic. Figures are made out of ethereal, luminescent, jellyfish-like material that is superbly animated. 5/5
Story: N/A.
Gameplay: Very simple. Use D-pad to move and eat. Tap any button to accelerate. That's all. Sounds boring? Think twice, I was about to cry when the game ended - perhaps its biggest negative is that it is too damn short! 4/5
Overall: 5/5.
