I did mushrooms on Friday, about 5 grams, and had a very intense pleasant trip. However since the comedown I have been deathly ill. It started with an incapacitating migraine and progressed into high fever, sore throat, nausea and dizziness. I've basically been unable to so much as stand-up without feeling like vomiting or falling over.

Today I feel even worse than yesterday. I got the feeling it was getting worse in my throat and possibly moving into my ears so started taking erythromycin.

I'm going to see a doctor as soon as I can, but this is rather difficult as I can barely move.

So did I likely eat a rotten one? What's the actual danger here? I've heard you can, well... die from this.

My guess is that you probably just caught a bug of some sort. I've always felt like mushrooms weakened the immune system for while you're under the influence, though I've never caught anything as a result myself.

I wouldn't worry about the rumours about dying. Sure, if you ate poisonous shrooms (ie a wrong species) it could be lethal, but if that were the case you'd probably be dead already. Your symptoms sound mostly like some sort of a flu.

i've heard the same thing, that all psychedelics effect your immune system, some more than others. its possible you got a stomach virus or something. i dont think it could be a bad mushroom since you have a sore throat and stuff. sounds more like a flu thing. idk man, feel better

Doesnt sound like the mushrooms were to blame, get to a doctor. IN all fairness ingesting mushrooms is akin to self induced food poisoning. Sounds like the mushrooms exhausted you & there by lowering your immune systems resistance to viruses and bacteria which got past and made you sick. I had suffered the nastiest stomach bug i've had in years several weeks back.

the first time i tried shrooms, i got very sick during the end of the trip and my stomach hurt so bad.
i kept putting my finger down my throat in hopes that i could throw them up.
i thought i was going to die i was in so much pain i just keep praying the whole time that i would live through it.
i thought for sure that shrooms were the forbidden fruit that was talked about in the Bible and eaten but Adam and Eve. :\ ..true story unfortunately

I know this guy is on a temp. ban and will not be able to respond but how the hell is eating mushrooms akin to food poisining? psilocybin and psilocin are both very non-toxic from what ive read and don't do anything similair to food poisining to the body.

yeah Dr hoffman said psilocybin was one of the least toxic of the active compounds how discovered.

my concern is that if some other fungus/mold grew on them before you consumed them that can make you very sick, go see a doctor and don't lie about it tell the doctor what you had or he will be working in the dark.

post back let us know if your ok and why you got sick if you figure it out

are you sure they were the correct strain? there are many poisonous lookalikes that will still make you trip

I had something similar after a San Pedro experience the other day, and restrospectively, I definitely agree it was just some kind of typical flu caught that weekend. Some healthy living later and back up to speed in no time :D

Psychedelics and the Immune System

I've heard that psychedelic use can temporarily lower the activity of the immune system. Is this true and to what extent?

I believe I have personally experienced this phenomenon on separate occasions with mescaline (peyote), mushrooms and mdma. Has anyone else? Or is there any scientific research about this?

Thanks for your input.

I'd also be interested in some input on this. I've heard a lot of heresay, but I doubt very much that there are many legit scientific studies on the matter.

I definitely noticed this with MDMA. After a strong experience I would get a cold during the week of the hangover, just like clockwork, I pretty much always got it and all it's hysical symptoms;first came a sore throat, then nasal congestion, then a runny nose. Also feeling tired throughout the whole thing.

Never experienced this with traditional psychedelics though.

Merged into a recent thread about this. Read from the top to get more info :)

It's more likely you scratched your arse while you were tripping and then put your fingers in your mouth.

Or the dealer wiped his arse and didn't wash his hands before handing you them.

its true mdma does cause your bodys immune system to be much lower during and after dosing. I cant remember the reason but it might be to do with shock cant remember there was a discussion on drugs-forum about this a short while ago

^ euvit it's probably cause md is a stimulant and i'm sure stimulants do wound your immune system, psychs though don't do any damage as far as i'm aware.

Ionno about psychedelics in general, however inhaling hot gases will. If you use a torch lighter to inhale any drug (especially salvia), use a bong filled with ice. Otherwise, the heat will burn your cilia and make way for a pathogen to get in there.

I dunno about that, me and a few other people have always found MDMA a good cure for colds. Perhaps the increase in body temperature helps the body destroy the virus.
