This is another account of an experience I had this Autumn with the wonderful herb, Salvia. It all started when I went over to Jimmy’s at night to smoke some of his Wild Dagga flowers that he purchased online. He had also ordered Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds, which he had consumed in the quantity of eight, 20 minutes before I arrived.

We sat on his porch and smoked a bowl full of Dagga, and I was beginning to feel its euphoric effects. The taste of the herb was very good, and it was smooth on my lungs. It gave me a strong feeling of relaxation along with a euphoria that made my stomach “roll” a bit. It seemed to me like a more mellow (though stronger in many ways), longer lasting (though not by too much), certainly better tasting, Tobacco.

After that, we loaded a bowl mixed with Cannabis and the Dagga flowers, as we both had heard so much that Dagga greatly intensifies the effect of many herbs and other drugs. Jimmy was starting to trip, so I decided to ask him if he had any Salvia left from his order. He went to grab it, and we were on our way to his dock. If you’ve read any of my trip reports here at Bluelight or Erowid, you should already be familiar with Jimmy’s dock, as this is one of my favorite tripping places, and I have described it in detail. Once we got down there, we smoked the mixed bowl.

The pipe we were smoking out of was a small wooden one, and as soon as I tasted the Cannabis, I became very aware of it, and it gave the experience a more spiritual tone. I started talking to Jimmy about how every time I smoke Cannabis, especially at night, I get this awareness and introspection where I see myself in third person. I analyze the fact that I am smoking Cannabis out of a wooden pipe out on the dock of a beautiful lake at night. It brings alot of things to mind regarding my beliefs and the beliefs of others about drugs. It actually increases my self esteem in some strange way in that I look at myself, and I like who I am. I love the fact that I have a strong spiritual self, and I feel bad for those people that never experience anything more than the physical and psychological (sometimes hardly the psychological) self. People are very selfish in nature, and I am the same way, but I believe true psychedelics, even those as mild as Cannabis tend to chip away at my selfishness and allow me to be empathetic and compassionate to others.

Anyhow, enough of the philosophy/psychology. Once I got reasonably high, we decided to listen to music. We chose some King Crimson as our first music, as this always brings a trip/high to a new level. The Dagga greatly complimented the Cannabis high in ways that I can not really explain. It was like there were two separate effects, none of which were similar to eachother, but blended to create a completely different high.

After this, we decided to go for a walk, as Jimmy was starting to feel those seeds heavily, and he was getting anxious. As we walked, I allowed myself to enter his level of thinking, and I talked to him as if I was tripping myself. I think if he didn’t know me better, he would have thought I was tripping too. I remember telling him something like “it’s not a game” just to mess with him, but I didn’t really keep it going at this point. I could tell he was tripping hard because on the way back, he hardly remembered walking to where we were. I started telling him that we transported by the means of a “black hole,” that the scenario had “repeated,” and that we hadn’t even walked down the road but started from where we were and were on our way to his dock (not back to his dock). Obviously this makes no sense. He thought it did, and I thought it was hilarious.

Once we got back there, I really wanted to hit the Salvia. Jimmy was having a very intense experience already, and I could see the spiritual fear building. However, he wanted to smoke the Salvia as well. He had the bulk extracted 5x extracts. I loaded a bowl, and he took a large hit. He was blown into another world, one in which he was not remotely comfortable with. He didn’t say too much during this part of the experience, but I had loaded up a hit of Salvia right after he had hit his.

I ended up taking four or five nice hits of it, and each time, I could feel my reality becoming more and more distant. I was waiting for it to shatter. It finally did, and before I drifted off, I told Jimmy that I wouldn’t be speaking for a little bit. Everything was molding together at this point, and the hill behind his dock and the steps leading up to the road looked like a big wall with these swirl patterns through it. I shut my eyes as I felt the fear building strongly, and I laid back on the dock. For some reason, something told me to get up and walk to the end of the dock. I did this carefully, and when I got to the end, the dock felt as if it was tipping up on me, and closing in from all sides. I was worried that I would fall into the lake. If that would have happened there would have been no way I would have been able to swim.

However, I looked up at the sky, and a blue flower bud that reminded me of a Blue Lotus flower appeared. It opened up as if I was watching one of those time lapse photography videos, but it kept opening up creating a kaleidoscope until a light in the center exploded out. I felt a profound feeling of fear at that moment, so I looked back down at the lake, and I saw something swim out of the darkness towards me. It was a dragon. It was very long and scaled, but it was separated by and connected in sections like something that was made from legos, but it did have somewhat of a fleshly appearance. It reminded me of one of those Chinese dragon ornaments you see in some people’s houses. It swam right up to me and stared me in the eyes.

After that, I walked back over to Jimmy, and I was quite floored by this experience. We ended up spending the rest of the trip listening to metal music. I was messing with him for the rest of his trip. I kept saying things like “It’s not a game. You don’t understand, you think it’s a game, but it’s not,” and things like that. It was putting all these serious scenarios in his head that were freaking him out, but he started laughing too. He kept
telling me that I needed to stop. Then I was like “It is a game. It’s Checkers. It’s Chess.” I could just imagine the visuals he was seeing. *laughs* Well, that’s about it for that experience.

I enjoyed reading this and I can totally relate to what you mean about introspection while smoking cannabis. I've had some good times with cannabis but now I just can't deal with the cloudiheadiness and anxiety/paranoia.

How would you compare Dagga to cannabis as far as the initial "high"?

Alot of dagga smokers claim it is the best recreational high, even better than Cannabis, it's legal, and the taste isn't all that bad, like all taste it's an aquired one, in the dagga high it is less mind blowing as a real stoned mindset can take you, less nerveraking, I'm not saying you should operate heavy machinery or anything, but you could do it well probally on either substance, but from my experience, and talking with other dagga smokers, its much milder than cannabis, so in the same sense theres less paranoia or anxiety, hope it helps.... later -me

Yes, Dagga is definitely not a true alternative for Cannabis. It is not nearly as intense, and it actually feels far different. It has a very unique euphoric effect.

Hey piper some interesting notes for you on that dragon thing...

Those chinese ornaments arent just ornaments, the chinese have a lot of those styles of mythical dragon in their culture... surely you've seen those huge dragon/man puppets they have for festivals and whatnot? or did you see something different?

Also, in the chinese martial arts, all the animals u fight "as" (the animal styles, crane tiger etc) with have different properties, and one of the dragons properties (either dragon or tiger i forget) is to look the opponent right in the eye at all times, because they can see your spirit in your eyes shining through or something.

I dunno, maybe you can relate to this in some way.

hmm, i should try that combo, i have dagga and cannabis and salvia... i was already planning on making a smoking blenc combining possibly those with california poppy, blue lotus, or calea zacatechichi, all of which i have... I just haven't had the time or thought recently to sit down and try them that much.
