Vaporizing makes me ill, but smoking doesn't, why ?

I decided to start on cannabis due to its pain relieving properties, many people here suggested that for someone with a damaged Autonomic System such as mine and due to my hypersensitivity to all psychoactive substances, vaporizing would be the best and most subtle option...

However after two weeks of trials with the vaporizer I found myself developing horrible gastrointestinal problems after every session. So I was ready to quit forever but before I did and as a final resort I decided to try rolling a joint for once as opposed to vaporizing it.....

It turned out to be a total success =D

For once my stomach wasn't doing back flips after smoking, there was still some unusual increase in churning and movement but no regurgitating mouthfuls of stomach acid, nausea, intestinal spams, vomiting or acid reflux lasting into the next day. Since discovering this I've had 3 successful days of being able to smoke joints without problems but last night to finalize my experiment and to be certain I once again hit the vaporizer and again discovered its horrible torturous side effects on my digestion..

So the question now is why is vaporizing so hard on my system..for starters I know for a fact if I didn't already have a damaged Autonomic function due to my medical condition vaporizing would not be so much of an issue but being already so sensitive as I am something else in the vaporizing process is triggering it a bad reaction.

I would much rather vaporize then smoke, with 10 years of medical problems it is important for me to maintain a healthy immune system and avoid and carcinogens and toxins from smoking but ironically my life always has a cruel way of twisting things and in this case the healthy way to smoke (vaporizing) is rejected and the unhealthy way (smoking) is tolerated. I don't want this. I have managed to narrow down the possibilities of why vaporizing is causing issues and need you guys to single out the problem...

1-The home made vaporizer from a white clear jar is releasing toxins when heated, this problem can be solved by purchasing a proper vaporizer?

2- When vaporized the street quality cannabis is releasing some of the chemicals it was sprayed with during the growing process, your body maybe sensitive to these, however when you smoke it these chemicals are burned off ?

3- When vaporized the cannabis does not release as much of the other cannabinoids and produces much more CBN and less THC than traditional smoking methods, CBN may also counters the effects of THC or perhaps CBN seems to potentiate THC's disorienting qualities or side-effects, your body maybe sensitive to the larger CBN then THC ratio released when vaporized ?

wait, you're telling me you are using a home-made vape? It's nothin like the real deal.

Having a bit of trouble understanding what you are using... Are you saying you are *aware* that you are using a toxic glass?

Using lightbulbs that are coated in white powder is a bad idea, too. Again, toxic.

I think it's #1. #2 doesn't seem likely, and as far as I know vapes are supposed to release mostly THC.

Go get an actual vape, that'll probably solve your problems. I feel like it's worth the dough.

chainer3k, yes I made a vaporizer out of a small thin clear glass spice jar, I did not use a light bulb because I heard that is toxic, however I am uncertain whether glass jars are also toxic when heated ?

Ramirez, I don't mind spending the cash, however if it turned out the problem was in fact number 2 and 3, then I would have wasted cash on something I can't use. Once I determine the problem I can make the right choice.

See if you can find someone you know that has a store-bought vape and try it out, if it still causes you digestive/gastrointestinal nastiness, then you'll know it was vaping that causes it and you won't have put all that money to waste.

Even tho you used a rudimentary vape, I would say that it's probably #3. With that said with a real vaporizer you can always turn up the temperature to release more of the other cannabinoids.

I just haven't heard reports of people feeling ill due to vaping, but not from smoking. I've heard reports of the opposite. With a makeshift home vape, you aren't able to control the temperature acurately, nor are you able to see what temperature you are hitting. A lot of times, this can cause under-heating or over-heating, one released not much of anything and the other will just burn the plant material anyway.

Really, there is no way for us to tell for sure. I'd say the only way you would be able to know for sure is if you gave a decent vape a go... Unfortunately, those run upwards 100$. Yep, it's more of an investment than I've been willing to make, too.

I dont have any friends =D well I used to have heaps but they all ditched me when I became disabled :p

I don't have anything constructive to add to the original thread; I just wanted to say I am sorry to hear about your shitty "friends." Hopefully you will be able to meet some new and cool people in the near future. Best of luck man.

unlucky: could you go into detail of how exactly your homemade vaporizor works? as in how did you make it

You said white clear jar. Was there any kind of powder in the jar? If so, it is possible that you did not get rid of it all.

I don't know of any growers who use harmful chemicals on their marijuana. After all, most growers will take a little bit of that marijuana for themselves. Some may use pesticides, but it isn't likely. Also, any chemicals on the marijuana would be inhaled regardless of how you heated it up.

Possible, but I've never heard of other people experiencing this problem with vaporizers, so it seems unlikely.

I would get rid of the homemade vaporizer and buy a real one, and see what happens. Stick to joints until you buy the new vaporizer. A week or two worth's of joints won't kill you.

Almost every time I've vaped, always with very good quality bud, I get very nauseous and a mild headache. I've never had any probs from smoking, except some occasional anxiety. I've used a few different vapes, and although I get a better buzz with the nice ones, the side effects were still there. :\

Don't really know what causes this, but thought I'd add my experience. Hope you find something that works for you. :)

I seem to be having some of these symptoms too. I have a pro vape, set to 230 degrees, headaches, acid reflux. I don't know for sure, but lately I have really been feeling like the vape is the cause.

ah also I haven't seen mentioned, you get many more CBD/Ns when smoking, which can help with nausea. Could be your body wants those and you feel sick without them. The high is certainly different.
