Misc valarian tea

ive been drinking this tea while tapering off of xanax it helps when im feeling sketched out

i found this on erowid

"I do know that if you attempt to make
Valerian tea with boiling water, you will evaporate the oils leaving
you with a really horrible tasting and foul smelling hardly psychoactive
cup of gunk! "


so do any of you kind bluelighters know what temp is ideal for brewing this tea,
when i made it with boiling water, it seemed to help
maybe it was placebo, i dont know

on a side note my kitty kats seem to love this stuff more than cat nip
they are trying to get into the bag like it was full of kitty treats,
its pretty funny

Boiling water will extract the active components (mostly amino acids and carboxylic acids I think) just fine. Green tea and other herbal teas are usually made with hot (not boiling) water because the heat can encourage oxidisation and thermal rearrangements of some compounds.

Edit: And there's a compound in valerian that's similar to the one in catnip - an analogue if you will. Cat drugs, man.

Valerian is fucking terrible. Most inactive but claimed to be active thing I have ever done.

At least for me anyway.

If you feel like you need it, just eat the capsules. I couldn't imagine having to deal with that smell.
