Using Oral Tablets Sublingually

I was wondering if it's possible to use tablets that are intended to be swallowed sublingually. I am specifically intending to use 3mg Melatonin and 1mg B12 in this manner. The pills were 400mg and 500mg respectively when weighed on my scale. Will these work sublingually or will the binders prevent absorption of the drug?

I've used regular melatonin tablets sublingually and didn't have a problem. If you let it dissolve completely it should work just fine. The only issue is the taste is usually pretty awful but that depends on your personal tastes and what the fillers in your pills are so YMMV but its certainly worth a shot. I can't speak on the vitamin B12 pills though.

The taste doesn't bother me at all really but I'm confused when you say "let it dissolve completely". I have kept these things under my tongue for over an hour without having them completely dissolve.

What do you all mean by "dissolve"? We are talking about 3mg of active material out of half a gram of total powder. Is all of it going to absorb?

Let it sit under your tongue for a a decent amount of time and turn to liquid if you can. Swish it around, then swallow. Even B12 or melatonin tablets meant for sublingual use don't just absorb entirely and disappear. Crushing will help. It should be fine to take regular B12 or melatonin sublingually if you don't mind the taste. I wouldn't overthink it ;)

Yes, there is no problem in doing this. It's practically recommended for Melatonin as the oral bioavailability is only around 15%. Sublingual bioavailability is much, much higher.

I dose my Valium this way normally. By completely absorb that refers to the active ingredient in whatever you are dosing sublingual. The fillers and binders normally are left over in my experience, which I then swish around and drink down with some water. Foul tastes don't really bother me, but if they are bad for you, most of the taste comes once you actually swallow the fillers. Swish with a soda or something instead to help mitigate the taste.

I find about 20 minutes under the tongue to be a good time frame before downing what's left.
